5 thoughts I have during spring running

Happy Friday! I am on my way to Albuquerque this morning for Camp Brooks, where I’m meeting up with the other Brooks RunHappy Ambassadors for a weekend of Running (including some trail action!) and sessions with Brooks experts.

This is one of my favorite weekends out of the year, so I’m super excited that it’s already here. If you want to follow along, head on over to Instagram where I’ll be posting all weekend long. I also hope it’s not going to be too hot because I forgot to pack shorts.

I think it’s fair to say that Spring is here — I mean, we do have a few inches of snow back in Minnesota and that seems about right for mid-March. I have a love-hate relationship with spring… and in reality, it’s probably my least favorite season (fall, winter, summer, spring… winter and summer are probably tied).

The best and worst things about spring running | Crazy Running Girl

So, since Spring Running is back… I am sharing five common thoughts I have during this time of year for training.

1. This is the best, EVER

After wearing 17 layers and running in single-digit temperatures, the warm up that we call spring feels AMAZING. Finally, only one layer?! No gloves? No black ice. I’M IN.

2. Are you kidding me, why does it feel like winter?

But, because it’s spring, and spring doesn’t know how to make up its mind, that feeling is short-lived. So yes, there’s a day or two (ok, probably a few more) where you can wear a long-sleeve and *gasp* capris, and not die, but it still feels like winter a lot of the time.

3. OMG it is way too hot for this time of year…

Just kidding! Spring likes to get out of control and suddenly be hot AF. That’s always my favorite because you’re so used to running in cold temperatures that your body gets so confused when it actually starts to sweat and overheat.

4. What do you mean it’s dark in the morning again?

Ugh, Daylight Savings. Just when you thought you could finally see your way (or not run without a headlamp), it’s back to being pitch black in the mornings. I don’t know about you, but this means my ability to wake up when the alarm goes off has gone from a 79% chance to about a 3% chance.

5. Racing season is HERE!

But the BEST part?! It’s finally time to dust off the racing shoes and sign up for some races! I do love spring for the fact that it brings a LOT of different and fun races, no matter how crazy the weather might be.

Linking up with Rachel for Friday Five!

What’s your favorite season? What do you love/hate about spring running?

Happy St. Patrick’s Day! What are you doing to celebrate?
