Eyelash extensions. They are all the rage and today we’re talking all about them. Earlier this week we talked about eyelashes and my favorite mascara and the response was overwhelming! If you missed that, you can check it out here.
Eyelash extension chains and “express” nail salons that offer lash extensions and “lash clubs” are popping up everywhere! I got them before my wedding and while I don’t get them often as I’d like, I have to say that I’m hooked. I’m a “no fuss woman” in the morning-typically mascara, sunscreen and concealer and I’m good. So skipping one more step (and waking up with beautiful lashes) is divine!
That said, I’ve also had a few bad experiences until I found The Queen of Lashes! Her name is Kimberly Temple (@skinbyKimberly on Instagram) from Par Exsalonce Salon and Day Spa in Scottsdale, Arizona. She has unique techniques for making your eyes look fabulous and enhancing your look. She’s schooled me on the do’s and don’ts and today, I’m sharing them with you:
Eyelash extensions: 7 things you will want to do to avoid being sorry:
1 | Make sure it’s licensed esthetician: I have several friends who differ on this but for me, anyone touching my eyes with glue(!!!) has to be licensed. If something goes wrong, I want some level of recourse. In addition, I went to a popular lash place last year and the woman’s touch was super rough and some of my lashes fell out. Estheticians are typically trained to be gentle and when it comes to lashes, I want gentle!
2 | Good glue: My experience with many of the chains is that they use cheap glue when placing the eyelash extensions on the customer. The problem with that is that the lashes usually clump together, look spiky and fall off quickly. With a good glue like the kind Kimberly uses, my lash extensions last 3-4 weeks-saving me time and money.
3 | Individual or Strips: Kimberly highly recommends individual lashes vs applying a strip of lashes. That way there is less pulling on your lashes and less of a chance of destroying your own lashes.
4| Silk, not plastic: Plastic fall off. In my view, they also look cheap and fake.
5 | Curl or no curl: Ever seen one of those women with cow eyes or eyelashes that stick straight out? That’s the wrong curl folks. I go with medium but ask Kimberly or your esthetician what would look best on you.
6 | Avoid oils: Oils cause the lashes to fall off so if you want to protect your investment, avoid them. This means you must be very careful that the makeup remover and the facial cleanser you use doesn’t contain oil!
7 | Brush and more brush: You want to brush them daily with a bristle brush given to you by your esthetician. This avoids clumping and makes them last longer. It takes two seconds.
If you live in the Phoenix/Scottsdale area call Par Exsalonce (480-860-0717), just mention “youreneverstuck” and you will receive a 10% percent discount on your first full set of lashes! Lucky you!
