It’s always good to be safe while travelling. And when a woman is travelling alone there's always a risk involved. Women are required to make some amount of planning, confidence, awareness and alertness while
travelling in India. Here are some Guidelines which women may consider while going for a sole travel:
Pre travel planning:
A woman has to act very smart in terms of herself safety. She should always Carry a pepper spray in her handbag and keep emergency number on speed dial for difficult situations.
Hotel Booking:
Book a Hotel wisely; make proper research regarding the location of the hotel. Make sure that the hotel is not in a remote area, and should have proper security, etc. It is also advisable to carry a secondary door lock to provide a double layer of security. Provide your family or friends the details of the hotel where you
are staying along with its Phone number.
Choosing Taxi/Cab:
Arrange reliable cab from a known Taxi company rather than picking up a street taxi. Always ask the driver to show his driving license. All genuine licensed taxi and minicab drivers carry an I.D. badge with them, and it is prominently displayed in their cab. Do not accept food or drink from the cab driver.
Conservative dress:
Fashion makes a statement in itself. Casual Clothes might be seen as provocative and inappropriate, and thieves might choose you as their potential target based on your style of dress or the amount of makeup or Jewellery you are Wearing. So it is advisable to Avoid wearing revealing clothes, attractive and shiny jewellery, expensive watches, bracelets, necklaces, and alike should be avoided.
Things to be avoided:
It is important that you do not go alone at night and do not talk to strangers. Try to avoid prolonged eye contact with strangers, chatting excessively and being 'overly' friendly. Do not sleep in the taxi. If you have to, use your phone to call someone so you can keep yourself awake. Do not reveal personal information to the cab driver.
