3 Reasons to Switch Hosting to SiteGround

Why Switch Hosting Service to SiteGround?

It took three strong reasons to Switch Hosting services: fast loading speed, great technical support, and the hosting service’s ability to support higher volumes of visitors.

Fast Loading Speed

After self-hosting my blog for over a year with no outside help, I felt 100% frustrated. Readers complained that it took too long to load my site. D.G. Kaye told me it took her over a minute once, and Dianne Gray said she let the loading timer spin over 15 minutes.

Desperation to provide better service to my readers motivated me to hire a long-time professional acquaintance, Daniel Renteria from ARRC, to rebuild and upgrade my website. However, even after I hired my web designer, the speed to load my blog was still 42 seconds. No one waits that long. (Except Dianne because she is exceptionally patient.)

“Time to switch hosting service,” Daniel told me.

A Twitter follower and web designer, Mark Brinker introduced me to GTmetrix. My website was a B in speed and a D YScore, whatever that is.

Mark told me I needed to optimize my photos. Thousands of them! Well, maybe hundreds, but who has time? I started to do that, but whew! I tried redoing some of my photos manually. After a short time, I fell asleep at the computer. Clearly I needed a faster solution.

Daniel said, “Some of your photos are so reduced already that they look too pixilated. Time to switch hosting service.”

Someone in a Facebook group suggested a plugin called Smushit. I tried Smushit, but my site was just as slow.

Daniel said, ” Plugins can slow your site down. Time to switch hosting service.”

I worried about my site going even slower so I deleted the plugin.

Daniel, my calm head in the time of chaos, said, “I think you need to switch hosting provider. In the meantime, you might try Cloudflare.”

I had until 2019 with my provider, so I didn’t want to switch hosting services. I tried Cloudflare. But no matter what I tried, I could not get my site below a loading time of 20 seconds according to Google Analytics. Under 4 seconds is recommended.

Finally, I gave in and asked Daniel who he recommended. He gave me two, and I chose SiteGround. I’m thrilled I did.

Here is my loading speed before I signed up for SiteGround.

Google Analytics page loading time of 42 seconds.

After I had signed up, Google Analytics sang a happier song.

April 14, 2017, load speed of 2 seconds. Yeah! 🙂

At this point, my site is still a B as graded by GT Metrix, but according to their analysis, it loads in 2.8 seconds.

SiteGround has done quite a bit of research for themselves using independent testing services. They do not base their findings on the word of one person, me. Pingdom, like GT Metrix, tests any site to find out how fast it loads. It is a paid service.

“The results on this page are based on tests with real accounts on 12 of the most popular web hosts on the affiliate market: Bluehost, HostGator, iPage, Fatcow, Justhost, AsmallOrange, InMotion, WebhostingHub, Arvixe, GoDaddy, GreenGeeks, and A2Hosting.” SiteGround

Better and Faster Technical Support

I know Paco by name now. I’ve talked to him twice. He may know me, too. The technical department had to help me switch hosting services every step of the way. My previous service, though very friendly, gave me incomplete information, and the process stalled several times.

The good news is that the technicians at SiteGround answer clients’ calls quickly and they give complete information. If customers are still confused – that’s me – SiteGround might even complete the task if they have the necessary access codes. Just ask Paco. You probably don’t want to hear all the troubles I went through with the other service, but Paco did.

Here’s what SiteGround had to say about fast loading time.

“We contacted the LiveChat of the 12 tested companies and SiteGround with one and the same simple request and recorded how much time was need for the issue resolution including the wait time before the chat was picked up.

Our first reply is in 8 minutes!

  • Average Industry reply-time – nearly 8 hours.
  • Only two companies are below 1 hour.
  • No other company is below 10 minutes!

We resolve more issues faster than other companies!

  • Only SiteGround and four other companies fixed all the three problems.
  • Average industry resolution time: 11 hours.
  • SiteGround average resolution time: 31 minutes.

We asked each company three questions over their ticketing systems: one general, one WordPress related and one Joomla related. We averaged the first response time and the resolution times for each company base on these three questions.”

Another Aspect of Technical Assistance: Follow-up.

After I had talked to Gloria for a half hour to help me switch hosting service to SiteGround she emailed me a guide.  Speed Matters: Twenty-One Expert Tips to an Ultra Fast WordPress Website recommended plugins and other easy applications even I could do. I’ve worked with two other major hosting companies, and neither of them had information at your fingertips in no time. The guide was easy to understand, easy to apply, and I felt like I made tremendous progress.

That brings up the final topic which is a great reason to switch to SiteGround – Too Much Traffic Slowing Down Your Site!

Able to Support Higher Volumes of Visitors

Maybe this problem troubles you. Hopefully, it will disturb me in a couple of months. SiteGround has my back.

“Apart from loading speed, we have tested how many hits can be successfully handled in two minutes by each of the 12 accounts with the same test WordPress website. The test was done with the help of the Siege testing and benchmark utility. The higher number of handled hits by SiteGround was achieved with the SuperCacher switched on for the website.” SiteGround

I added the plugin to solve this problem, so hopefully, I should not notice any downtimes or delays in my website. One of my other sites, served by a different hosting provider, is down and back up about every two weeks.

Summary

SiteGround solves three common problems: loading speed, service, and the ability to handle large volumes of traffic. With these issues out of the way, your website will take off quicker and more efficiently than by using any other hosting service. If you are just starting your site, or you have experienced problems, I recommend them highly, so much that I signed up to be an affiliate. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me through FB Messenger.
