Few months ago, Bryant bid his farewell to Lakers fans and co-players and while in the middle of the retirement; Lakers announced on Wednesday night that his former teammate Shaquille O’Neal will be honored with a bronze Statue outside Staples Center.
As remembered, Shaq played for Lakers since 1996 -2004 and had entered the finals in the years 2000-2002 of which he was named as Finals MVP in both series. After all the efforts and talents shown in NBA, he will now join the legendary players Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Jerry West and Magic Johnson.
In release by ESPN, it was reported that Lakers President Jeanie Buss stated that Shaq’s statue will be out for fans some time in 2016-2017 season. In an interview, Buss regarded O’Neal as huge not only in person but also in statue and what he’d accomplished as a Laker. “It’s an honor that is well deserved. We look forward to having Shaq join the other legends who have been honored with statues in Staples Center” she added.
Supposed the announcement was totally a surprise. It took place on Kimmel Show. At first O’Neal didn’t believe and kept on asking the comedian if it was really true. “You’re playing, I don’t believe you”. Known for pranks Kimmel revealed this one was real. After all, Shaq’s career was spent most on Lakers scoring half of his 28, 596 points having the jersey number “34”, with purple and gold as his attire.
With the upcoming statue, it will always be remembered that in NBA there was this aggressive monster that no one can deflected. Let’s just hope it will be hanged so hard on the wall and will not fall off to someone else.
