Save Money by Simplifying your routine
You ask me how a Routine can help you save money? I am a real example of how you can waste Money by not being on a routine when your kids are in School. I look back when my kids were in school and I see a big difference in our household when I was running a more simplified routine. I could also tell a difference in our cash flow when I compared the weeks.
Here are ways that I found help save our money by me just making our routine simple
1. Making lunches the night before: Plan ahead and make the lunches the night before. If you don’t, you might not have any control of your time the next morning and you will have to dish out money to have your kids eat lunch at school. It has been a few years since my kids ate lunch at school but it was $3 when they were in grade school. If it is $3 a day, that is $15 a week and $60 a month. That is a lot of money especially if you have multiple kids in school.
2. Menu plan for your breakfast and evening meals: I know how hard it is to get to and from all the events that you do as a family and eat at home. Menu plan around your calendar. Pick meals to cook that will not stress you out. You might need to cook a large meal on the weekend and have left overs one night during the week or if you know you will be getting home around 7:30 p.m. choose a sandwich and soup night. If you pick up fast food for a family of 4 twice a week, you could spend $20 each time which would be $40 a week and $160 a month. Wow. That is just on meals that you really don’t enjoy and not that healthy for your family.
Planning ahead = Saving money
3. Fill out forms and permission slips the night before. This might not seem like something that will cost you money if you don’t fill out the forms on time but believe me it cost. It will cost you gas and time to run up to the school to take the forms to your child because you don’t want them to miss out of an event or field trip. This is the ultimate to “the things we do for our kids”. If you work, you might even have to clock out and lose work time to go run something to their school. This is a cost that is hidden and never really thought about.
All three of these I have done and done over and over. I have learned by my mistakes. Hope this is just a memory jogger to the veteran school moms and a little bit of wisdom to the new school mom.
Happy school year!!!
