Finding real estate in Long Island can be tough. Housing is few and far between and finding affordable Long Island apartments in Amityville can be even tougher. In Suffolk County, the process of finding housing may be a little easier in the future thanks to a new affordable housing program that will help finance new apartments for rent in the area. A groundbreaking was recently hosted by Conifer Realty, LLC and Community Development Corporation of Long Island for mixed-income apartments that will be created in the downtown area on Main Street. The five story building will have one and two bedroom apartments, all of which will be energy-efficient.

The community has been working for some time on redevelopment efforts and the Peconic Crossing development is one way that the revitalization will happen in Downtown Riverhead. Housing is needed for the workforce as well as those who were displaced by Superstorm Sandy. $4.55 million has been committed by the Governor of New York’s Office of Storm Recovery via the Affordable Housing Fund program. This money will help to finance the new apartments.

According to Steve Bellone, an executive of Suffolk County, the new housing options for downtown will help to support the local economy as well as preserve open space, enhancing the quality of life for those involved. Infrastructure funding will go a long way to supporting the growth of affordable housing for the area.

With the addition of the new apartment complex, there will be more Suffolk County apartments for rent in the area. This will help to provide affordable housing for workers in the area as well as those who were displaced due to natural disasters, and anyone else looking for housing. Overall, the new complex is much-needed and further helps the redevelopment efforts in this region of New York State.
