RIP Ishmeet

It was a sad day for Ishmeet's family when the news of his drowning in a Maldives swimming pool started coming. May God rest his soul in peace.
What a way to go! 19 years of age, winning the 'Star Voice of India' a reality singing competition, a playback singing career on the upswing. Sigh!
Guess, that's the way God's script goes.
This just goes to show how much control we have of our life or our death. And with the terrorists going hammer and tongs everywhere bombing people, it is all the more difficult to predict one's last step on this planet.
Well, this reminds me of a quote which I read somewhere-
'Live life as if it was your last day, everyday'
Rest in Peace, Ishmeet Singh.

Money Hai Toh Film Banao! What a Waste!

Have you seen the latest films to have released recently? Well, the least said about them the better, isn't it? No, I have not seen any of them so I cannot review them but then isn't that the way movies are being treated in today's times? It's really the age of 'wait and watch'. Everyone waits for the other to see a film and tell them how it was before they can go and see it too. In the process no one actually sees the film. It's also not about promotions anymore because come on, YashRaj Films do promote their films fiercely but that doesn't seem to be working.
Let's list the movies released recently-

'Kismet Konnection'- A Total Dud! (Shahid and Vidya just didn't click with the audience-they look like brother sister)

'Contract'- A Ram Gopal Verma Film is already only made for the Bombay audience be it 'Contract' or 'Sarkar Raj' or 'Aag' (sorry! The last one was not meant for any region actually). But even the Bombayiites seem to have deserted the film maker now. Highly avoidable.

'Mission Istanbul'- What can you expect of something whose title song is sung like- 'misshaan, misshaan' instead of 'mission' (they have got it totally wrong). Nobody expected much of this film and the film lives upto it's expectation. :-)

'Thoda Pyaar,....Something' - One can't even remember the name of the film. I think that says it all.

'Money Hai Toh Honey Hai'- Yuck!!

'Mere Baap Pehle Aap'- Baap Re Baap!

Well, let's hope 'Ugly aur Pagli' does well- that's the next release- and a week after that is 'Singh is King'

(Hmm...Wait and Watch...Wait and Watch)

Halla Bol

Here's a sneak peek into a promo from the film Halla Bol starring Ajay Devgan and Vidya Balan, directed by Rajkumar Santoshi. This video was taken from YouTube.

Here's a sneak peek into a promo from the film Halla Bol starring Ajay Devgan and Vidya Balan, directed by Rajkumar Santoshi. This video was taken from YouTube.
Halla Bol is about an actor whose conscience is activated due to some incident and he goes on to become a social activist taking on the government. Faintly based on the life of Theatre activist Safdar Hashmi. It is also said that the character of Ajay Devgan is based on Aamir Khan. So there! Aamir Khan rocks again.
Here's wishing Halla Bol a decent run at the box office. Not for any reason but just so that the new year begins on a positive note. All the best Halla Bol.

Latest News-Jodha Akbar delayed till April

Jodha Akbar, starring Hritik Roshan and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, is probably the most awaited films of this year. But the jinx seems to be stronger than anyone has expected. The latest news is that fans will be able to see this magnum opus only in April. Ashutosh Gowariker's back is not getting any better and what with the post production work still remaining, the team will be able to make a final print only in March. But they cannot release it because of the exams of children during the period. So it will have to be either April or May. Well, patience has its virtues they say. Lets hope the jinx subsides and the film sees the light of the day and reaches where it is destined to reach. We pray for a speedy recovery for Ashutosh too.

Music Director RD Burman's 14th Death Anniversary

Today is the 14th death anniversary of Music director RD Burman or Panchamda as he was fondly called by people who loved him. Everyone loved him. He became immortal right from his first film Chhote Nawab which Panchamda considered his best score ever.
RD Burman scored music for 331 films in 32 years. his timeless classics are still heard by the younger generation as there are a lot of remixed versions of his songs in the market. Although, RD went through a low phase when his last 27 films flopped and filmmakers started to avoid him, Panchamda came up with the fabulous score for 1942-A Love Story which starred Anil Kapoor, Jackie Shroff and Manisha Koirala. This film rekindled his reputation as a genius composer.
Long live the Boss!

Here is a video of the song 'Mehbooba' from the superhit film Sholay on YouTube

‘How can I have an affair with Shahid Kapoor?’ says Vidya Balan

Guess who is smiling wide after rumours of Jab We Met star Shahid Kapoor’s clandestine meeting with tennis icon Sania Mirza broke out? It’s Lage Raho Munnabhai’s Vidya Balan. She was heard saying, ‘how can I have an affair with Shahid Kapoor if he is dating Sania Mirza?’

Don’t gloat Ms Vidya, because as far as rumours go, Shahid is having an affair with every available girl. The latest on the Shahid Kapoor link-ups is Amrita Rao. Apparently Shahid enjoyed the movie ‘Welcome’ at a Bombay suburban cinema hall with Amrita Rao and guess what? Pankuj Kapoor and Supriya Pathak were also there with them. Hmm…makes you wonder what’s brewing, doesn’t it?

Shahid seems to be singing ‘Shaayad meri shaadi ka khayaal, dil mein aaya hai’? to every PYT after the break-up with Kareena Kapoor.

Last heard Vidya Balan was saying that she would love to work with the Jab We Met director Imtiaz Ali. Hmm…now that is rubbing salt in the wounds of Ms Kareena Kapoor, don’t you think? First she takes her boyfriend and now she has eyes on her director.

Incidentally, Vidya Balan is all geared for ‘Halla Bol’- the film starring Ajay Devgan and herself. It is directed by Rajkumar Santoshi and it is said to be a story based on the life of theatre activist Safdar Hashmi.

Its been sometime since a Rajkumar Santoshi film has made big news. Let’s hope the year 2008 starts on a positive note for Bollywood.

Benazir Bhutto was offered a Role in Bollywood

The brutal assassination of Benazir Bhutto in Pakistan is indeed a black day in the history of Pakistan. All the democratic countries should and have condemned this attack on democracy. May God rest her soul in peace!

Well, her death has brought a lot of interesting tidbits of her life. Like this story I came across through a friend from the Indian Film Industry. Benazir Bhutto had been offered a Bollywood film way back in 1972, when she was a young girl.

She was just 18 when she visited India with her father, Zulfikar Ali Bhutto who had come here for the historic Shimla talks in the wake of the India-Pakistan war in 1971. The film was offered to her by veteran comedian I.S. Johar. Of course, she refused the offer because she was never interested in the entertainment business though it did wonders for the career of I.S. Johar.

Well, I guess, Benazir Bhutto was made for something else. She was probably destined to be part of Pakistan politics and then die for it. God bless her soul!
