I first started using Android back when the first Samsung Galaxy S was released. Since then I have owned multiple Android phones spanning almost every version of Android. However, I have never enjoyed using an Android Launcher – till now.
Over the years I tried using all sorts of launchers including Nova launcher. Launchers like Nova try to replicate the stock Android experience and do a great job of it, but my problem with launchers like Nova was that other than changing the look of my phone they didn’t really make my experience any easier. I found myself constantly downloading Nova launcher and then heading back to my phone’s stock Android skin.
Finally however, it seems that I have found a launcher that actually simplifies my day-to-day experience. Yes, I am referring to Evie Launcher.
From the moment I installed Evie launcher, I noticed it’s minimalistic appeal. I have a single home page from where a simple swipe up allows me to access my app drawer and a swipe down allows access to the search function. Similar to iOS, this search function provides the ability to search installed apps or search content on the web. This entire setup is focused around allowing access to apps and content as quickly and as painlessly as possible. A rather refreshing change from having to scroll through pages and pages of apps.
The best part is that Evie launcher still allows for full customization. Such as:
- The ability to add a second page next to your home screen
- Adjusting the number of colums and rows on your home screen
- The ability to customize the dock and app drawers
- Adjusting the icon size
- Using icon packs
- Using widgets
And many more!
Going forward Evie launcher will be my launcher of choice on all Android phones. The simplicity of use and quick access to apps and web content is just too good to give up.
Below are some screenshots from my current setup.
