The new Surface Laptop too expensive? These cheap $299 HP ProBook x360 and Acer TravelMate Spin B1 can be decent options for you

The new Surface Laptop is definitely one hell of a great computing device. Microsoft claims that it's thinner, lighter and 50% much faster than Apple Macbook Pro and Air. However, it's really expensive to buy, pricing starts at $1000. The good news, HP and Acer today also announced the cheaper options for this Microsoft's new laptop. They are HP ProBook x360 Education Edition and Acer TravelMate Spin B1 Convertible. These two Windows 10 S laptops will go on sale for $299.

Acer and HP are actually 2 of Microsoft's hardware partners that will also be making Windows 10 S laptops in the coming days or months. Meanwhile, other manufacturers from ASUS, DELL, Samsung, Toshiba and Fujitsu will join the forces soon.

Priced at only $299, these two Windows 10 S laptops from HP and Acer are actually not too shabby all. In fact, for their cheap $299 price tag, they can actually make great alternatives for the new Surface laptop.

Let's start with HP ProBook x360 Education Edition

First of all, HP ProBook x360 Education Edition is a touchscreen laptop. But what makes it really special is, it features a 360-degree hinge that allows users to use it in 4 different modes of functionality - from normal laptop, tablet, stand and tent.

So basically, not only can you use it as normal regular laptop on the table, but this HP's laptop also allows you to rotate the screen in full 360 degrees and turn it into a full tablet. Isn't that awesome, huh?

HP ProBook x360 Education Edition comes with an 11.6-inch display with the resolution 1366x768 pixels. And then in performance, an Intel Celeron N3350 processor and Intel HD Graphics 500 will run the entire show here, coupled with 4gigs of RAM in memory department. There's also 64GB built-in storage which is expandable through SD card slot.

It will run on Windows 10 S out of the box. For your information, this is Microsoft's new cloud-based OS, aimed at Google's popular Chrome OS. It's actually the simplified version of the regular Windows 10. So it's going to be lighter and also more efficient with battery usage.

But on Windows 10 S, users are only allowed to install apps straightly from the official Windows Store. So 3rd party apps are totally blocked here. Thankfully, users can still run 3rd party apps but they firstly need to upgrade this laptop from Windows 10 OS to Windows 10 Pro OS.

Acer TravelMate Spin B1 Convertible

That's the HP ProBook x360 Education Edition. What about Acer TravelMate Spin B1 Convertible?

Well, Acer TravelMate Spin B1 Convertible is actually not any different than HP's laptop. So it's also a touchscreen laptop. And it also features a full 360-degree hinge which gives users more flexibility in using this laptop.

So yes, you can use it as a normal regular laptop on the table. But if you want to watch movies or browse the web more conveniently, you can rotate the screen up to full 360 degrees to turn enter the kickstand mode, tent mode or tablet mode.

Acer TravelMate Spin B1 Convertible features an 11.6-inch screen sporting the 1080p resolution. And then, Intel Celeron processor will handle the performance, accompanied with 4GB of RAM to ensure its smooth lag-free experience. The storage available here is 64GB, but we believe it's expandable through its SD card reader.

Just like HP's laptop, this Acer TravelMate Spin B1 Convertible will also go on sale for only $299 and it's already available right now. The coolest thing is, it also comes with its own stylus in the package. So artists or designers out there will definitely want to grab this laptop immediately.
