Data on Daily: Banksy

Lynsey and I have been exploring the Tableau Public Gallery. We hope to start developing a few dashboards based on data we think are fun. Up first, conceptualizing a viz involving data from the National Park Services. In our exploration for inspiration, we came across this viz of Banksy art. The piece by André Oliveira serves as a sort of gallery of Banksy’s art with data that is simplified.

If you are wondering how this works, simply Select a bubble (or a city). When you select a city it will move you over to the city dashboard where you can see the location of each piece of art. If you select any individual spot, the dashboard will display facts about the art and an image of the piece.

We love the marriage of data and design here. The data serves as a geolocation while the art itself is the spotlight. The visualization allows us to understand the density of the art. It’s a great example of taking single layer data and presenting it in an exciting way. And if you’re really digging the Banksy work, check out this collection of work including his October 2013 NY residency.

cheers to data + design
