DC Comics revealed a brand-new logo on the mark of their 80th year as one of the leading comic book publishers in the industry.
The new DC branding will premiere on the covers of the much awaited DC UNIVERSE: REBIRTH SPECIAL #1 Comic Book written by Geoff Johns come May 25th, will be available in comic book shops and digitally. According to DC's Chief Creative Officer Geoff Johns, the decision was a desire to honor the company's past legacy
To me, Rebirth and the new DC logo are built on what’s come before while looking to what will come tomorrow.
REBIRTH is expected to be the continuity of the classic DC Universe saga that was wiped clean from the 2011's New 52 streamlined storyline reboot that was done to attract new generation of readers. However with REBIRTH's launch, it will not disrupt the the overall state of the New 52.
DC Comics is well known as the home of the most iconic super heroes and super villains in history. "The new logo has the character and strength to stand proudly alongside DC’s iconic symbols. The launch of the new logo is the perfect tribute to DC’s legacy, exciting future and most importantly, our fans." according to Amit Desai - DC Entertainment Senior Vice President of Marketing and Global Franchise Management.
The new Logo, developed in partnership with Pentagram, roots back to the old-school Golden/Silver Age (1930 - 1976) circular form logo but now incorporated with modern type treated with angular stylization which made it far more iconic than ever before.
Now we can only see flat versions of the logo that will be used for print and digital collaterals. Personally, I cant wait to see DC's new logo to be used as brand identity on both cinematic and animations. I hope they do the defining feature of the previous “page-turning” logo that it could be customized to personify whatever DC character it was currently representing.
We can expect the new logo the debut on REBIRTH will also be part of the core branding across DC's array of digital platforms, including its social media channels, websites and All Access app.
