The Blackberry latest news state that recently it has officially signed its life away to TCL. By the agreement, now all the issues regarding design, production, selling and customer support of mobile devices will be carried out by a new brand owner. It was announced on the official website of the company.
The new agreement with TCL is a continuation of the previous one, following the terms of which TCL worked as an outsourcer providing its development services and launched 2 models – DTEK50 and DTEK60, which are based on Android OS. From this moment, TCL is an official manufacturer and distributor of Blackberry devices all around the world. The exceptions are such countries as India, Sri-Lanka, Nepal, Bangladesh, and Indonesia.
It is difficult to call this news a sudden one, as according to Statista research, in the 2nd quarter of 2016 Blackberry had managed to take only 0,1% of the market. For the comparison – in 2009 it was 20%. And the last Blackberry model designed by the Canadians themselves was released as far back as in 2015.
Instead of smartphones manufacturing, Blackberry plans to do software development for other manufacturers of mobile devices. At the same time, the Canadians keep cooperating with other companies specializing in the production of new smartphone models.
Let’s note that Blackberry is not the first acquisition of a well-known brand for TCL company. Earlier in January 2015 it bought Palm and in 2005 it became an owner of a famous French brand Alcatel.
