Warren Buffett, once said: “In looking for people to hire, you look for three qualities: integrity, intelligence, and energy. And if you don’t have the first, the other two will kill you.”
Hiring people with these three traits is how you start to build a team of A+ players.
So, what is one question can you ask in an interview to identify how suitable they would be in your business?
And I’m not talking about those ‘curveball’ questions to do with how many marbles can fit in a bus or which superhero would make the best receptionist.
Everything you need to know about a candidate can be learned in the moment when you look a candidate in the eye and ask them, ‘Why shouldn’t I hire you?’
This question isn’t designed to find out what their weaknesses are. Instead, this will give you immediate insight into their self-awareness, integrity, and honesty. How they answer the question is just as, if not more, important than the answer itself.
If they think too long, or can’t answer the question at all, they may be hiding something. However, if their answer is genuine, then you have a suitable contender for your role.
