Watch: Bernie Sanders Exposed the Media's Love Affair With Trump . . . in 1990

During a 1990 U.S. Congress Debate, Bernie Sanders spoke about how mainstream media favored covering Donald Trump over the then-refugee crisis, in this case people fleeing Kuwait. The debate took place on Sept. 16, 1990 at Temple Sinai in South Burlington. Bernie Sanders, Peter Smith, Peter Diamondstone, Dolores Sandoval participated, leading Sanders to win the sole Vermont senate seat.

When asked about the media's coverage of the Kuwaiti refugee crisis, Sanders said:

I remember teaching at Hamilton University in the spring and having kids do research papers as to how much time Time and Newsweek put into the coverage of Third World Starvation as opposed to the life and times of Donald Trump, and you know what the answer was? This was before his divorce, when he really got the news. Far more attention was paid to Donald Trump than to the Holocaust, and I use that word wisely, in a temple, in the third world right now.
