Sunderland 2-1 Manchester United: Pressure mounts on Van Gaal

Manchester United’s ambitions of achieving Champions League football took another knock on Saturday as they were beaten by relegation threatened Sunderland 2-1 at the Stadium of Light.

It took Wahbi Khazri just three minutes to break the deadlock, as his left-wing freekick evaded everyone inside the area to skid off the surface and drop into the bottom corner.

Anthony Martial grabbed the equaliser six minutes before the interval, as he produced a smart finish to clip the ball over the grounded Vito Mannone following Juan Mata's parried strike.

But with eight minutes to play, Sunderland did find their breakthrough, as Lamine Kone crashed in a low header from a corner that eventually crossed the line after a rebound off the back of the unfortunate David De Gea.
