1. Share with us how you got your start in modeling. Was modeling something you’ve always wanted to do?
Well my first time being in front of the camera was with my dad who was practicing photography at the time, and he would use me as his test model. Throughout my younger years he and my mom would encourage me the most to model. My dad would tell me all the time to practice posing in the mirror and practice my walk, even when I wasn’t considering Modeling as my career. My first time going to a model call I was very young (I can’t really recall how old I was). My parents and I went into the office to talk with the manager who was asking me questions and I guess I wasn’t too enthusiastic about it. So then they asked if I really wanted to model and I said no, hahaha. I will always remember that moment! As I got older I was hearing “you should model” constantly and I was just very reserved and didn’t want all the attention on me, but now I’m okay with it. I’m glad I’m modeling and have the opportunity to tell others my story.
2. What has been your proudest moment so far?
My proudest moment so far, in general, has been having people look to me as inspiration for them. But specifically, I would have to say going up to NY and modeling for Fashion Week, and being published in numerous magazines.
3. Your Instagram is full of incredible artwork. Are you self-taught? Where do you get inspiration for your pieces?
I would like to say I’m both self-taught and I learned from my art teachers when I was in middle school. At the time, my dad would pick me up every day after school and we’d go to his office and since I never really had much to do he’d always have me drawing. That along with being in art classes had me drawing constantly. I started watching tutorials and asking my teachers questions whenever I wanted to learn something new. I guess it depends on what your definition of self-taught is…I taught myself to achieve what I want by getting help from others. Most people just think talent is supposed to come to you when that’s not the case at all.
4. Between modeling, art and life in general, how and where do you find balance? Do you ever have to hit the pause button to catch your breath?
Yeah, sometimes I have to step back and just remind myself to still live life and not get discouraged when something doesn’t fall through the way I planned. I’m the type that believes you shouldn’t just do one thing. You can put your energy into multiple things, but sometimes when you do that you start to have too much on your plate and you can’t chew it all at once like you thought. Once I take my little break, I get right back on it because I don’t want to get caught up being too comfortable. That’ll get me nowhere.
5. Share 3 things you can’t go without in the morning.
Breakfast, a glass of water, and a nice shower.
6. What can look forward to seeing in the future? More art, more runway, videos? Share with us where you see yourself in the next 2 years.
In the next couple of years, I hope to be traveling for either modeling or art, or both. I want to do more for the community and possibly change the way people think. I hope to have a website going, making art books, selling more merchandise. I have been thinking of making art vlogs or “day in the life” blogs, but I’m still pondering on that idea. Right now I’m continuing my modeling and art career.
