My Australian Adventure

I purchased an OzExperience bus ticket and travelled along Australia’s east coast from Sydney to Cairns. Along the way I stopped at Barrington Tops National Park at a rafting station where I ended up working for 4 weeks and worrying my parents to death as there was no phone connection… Whoops – sorry!

After leaving Barrington Tops National Park I spent a couple of days in Byron Bay before heading to Brisbane and then onward to Goondiwindi to work at a piggery. Goondiwindi is about 4 hours west of Brisbane at the NSW border. Working at a piggery was a whole new experience and I would never ever do it again. Lesson learned.

Leaving the pigglets behind I made my way back to Brisbane where I began  working for SMART – a company that sells electricity door to door. There I’ve formed lifelong friendships with people I still hold close to my heart.

Door to door selling wasn’t my thing so I continued to  travel up the east coast, stopping in Harvey Bay to do a Fraser Island 4wd adventure, checked out Airlie Beach and cruised the Whitsunday Islands before heading to Townsville, Magentic Island and finally meeting my parents and sister in Cairns.

In Cairns we snorkelled the Great Barrier Reef before exploring the Daintree Rainforest. The Daintree Rainforest is the oldest surviving tropical rainforest in the world and is located up the coast north of Cairns.

Together with my family I flew from Cairns to Alice Springs where we did a 3 day tour to Uluru, Kata Tjuta and King Canyon which was an incredible experience. You have to see it to believe.

Next stop was Perth where I worked in a hotel as a housekeeper before moving on to Marvel Loch a little mining town between Perth and Kalgoorlie. I worked there at the local pub for around 6 weeks and saved enough money to enjoy the rest of my time in Australia and New Zealand without needing to work.

I left Marvel Loch with a heavy heart as all the locals treated me as family and didn’t want me to go, but it was time to head to Melbourne to see extended family and to explore New Zealand.
