Unicyclists at this Bangkok restaurant catch flying flaming chickens

If you like your restaurants to come with a healthy dollop of showmanship, you could do a lot worse than check out the Kratorn Flying Chicken Restaurant on the outskirts of Bangkok.

The signature dish, which gives the establishment its name, is steamed, deep-fried and then roasted, before being set alight and catapulted from a cannon at one end of the restaurant.

Meanwhile, a conspicuously-dressed waiter riding a unicycle pedals himself into position to catch the airborne poultry with a specially designed metal dish atop his head. Sound zany enough? It is.

Let’s not beat around the bush – Kratorn does not have any pretensions of being a gourmet restaurant, and in a country with such fantastic cuisine as Thailand, you can easily find better food quality elsewhere. But in terms of sheer entertainment and outrageous wackiness, you’ll be hard pushed to top Kratorn anywhere in the world.

In addition to the bizarre main event, there’s also karaoke singing, children’s entertainers and a giant glitzy chicken greeting you upon entrance.
