What is Telegram?
Telegram is a relatively young (2014) cloud-based instant messaging service. The app is available for iOS, Android, macOS, Linux, Windows Phone and Windows NT operating systems.
Those who download Telegram will be able to send messages, exchange photos, video stickers, files and audios.
The app had in February 2016 around 100 million monthly active users and 2017 seems to have been a very good years as well. Telegram’s CEO, the Russian entrepreneur Pavel Durov, declared that the app had more than 50% annual growth rate.
The messages sent between users are server-client encrypted by default and voice calls are end-to-end encrypted. There is also an optional choice of end-to-end encryption of secret chats.
An interesting fact about this app is that it remains unknown were Telegram rents its offices. Those who want to install the app on their smartphone have to subscribe their telephone number. Users can add multiple devices to one account and receive messages on each device. There is also the possibility of setting an alias, allowing the user to send messages without revealing the phone number.
