Thin Bezel Monitor Reviews

ASUS MX27AQ | 27″ | 1440p

Screen Size: 27″ Panel Type: IPS Resolution: 2560×1440 Aspect Ratio: 16/9 Colors: sRGB 100% Brightness: 250 cd/m2 Contrast Ratio: 1,000:1 Refresh Rate: 60Hz Response Time: 5ms Ports: HDMI, HML, Display Port

Pros

  • Visually amazing AH-IPS Display- sRGB 100%
  • Good built-in speakers
  • Great aesthetics

– Cons

  • Little adjustment flexibility
  • Not the fastest screen for gamers

The ASUS MX27AQ is an incredibly visually stunning monitor, with a sleek bezeless design and a vibrant 1440p IPS display. Response time and refresh rate on this monitor aren’t anything special, at 5ms and 60Hz respectively. The image quality of the monitor is excellent, with great contrast and accuracy and little grain on neutral colors. Overall, the 178° IPS display on the MX27AQ is vibrant and accurate, being only bested by elite monitors costing hundreds more. For most graphic designers and photographers, this monitor will more than suffice.

Physically, the ASUS MX27AQ‘s design is very pleasing, with one of the thinnest bezel we’ve seen on a beautiful brushed aluminum base. The bezel measures at less than one mm, so virtually the entire front of the monitor is the display. The stand that the monitor sits on is very stable, but that rigidity comes as a cost to the adjust ability of the monitor – it can only tilt up and down +20° to -5°. On the back of the monitor, there is are two HDMI ports , a HDMI/HML, and a Display Port, giving nearly complete comparability.

The MX27AQ is also relatively unique in including technology to lessen strain on eyes. It’s TÜV Rheinland-certified anti-flicker technology and blue light filter are advertised to soften strain and reduce on eyes after long hours of viewing.

This monitor does carry dual 25mm 3w Bang & Olufsen ICEpower speakers that were specially designed to fit into the thin body of the ASUS MX27AQ. These speakers will not match a pair of good dedicated computer speakers, but are far better than most other included speakers on monitors. The speakers are relatively small and not loud, but sound is clear and distortion is minimum even at full volume.

Price-wise, the MX27AQ is on the upper end of monitors – though still far less than the latest 4k 144Hz screens. Building a multi-monitor setup with this monitor is not cheap, but for users demanding a genuinely good display, the MX27AQ is probably well worth it. If you want a good gaming setup you should also check out our guide for getting a great gaming chair.

Overall, the ASUS MX27AQ is a stylish thin bezel monitor monitor that offers a beautiful AH-IPS Display with great colors and good built-in speakers (a rare occurrence).

AOC i2481FXH | 24” | 1080p

Screen Size: 24″ Panel Type: IPS Resolution: 1920×1080 Aspect Ratio: 16/9 Colors: 16.7 Million Brightness: 250 cd/m2 Contrast Ratio: 1,000:1 Refresh Rate: 60Hz Response Time: 5ms Ports: HDMI, VGAPros
  • Stylish, premium design
  • Minuscule bezels
  • Good Display
  • Low price

– Cons

  • No VESA mounts
  • Slight ghosting
  • No built in speakers

The – though being a relatively budget monitor – the AOC i2481FXH has a rather unique and artistic feel to it that, mostly because of its stand. Due to its premium looking design from its thin bezel and curvy stand, the monitor looks more expensive than it actually is. The AH-IPS panel it carries preforms as expected, with few defects not seen on other similar priced IPS displays. The i2481FXH unfortunately does not have VESA mounts, which means some more advanced mutil-monitor setups are not possible. However, a standard dual or triple monitor setup will still work very well for this display. For the price, the i2481FXH performs as well, with adequate ports for most users and a good display.

The monitor has a 1080p AH-IPS display at 60 Hz – all industry standard. Though AH-IPS is the highest quality IPS monitor type, but you won’t be getting top monitor performance on any monitors at this price-point, the price is just too low to get the top performance. The monitor works well and has no major display flaws, but it does suffer from IPS glow and does have some occasional ghosting. Contrast is good, and the display is as responsive as advertised, with a response time of just under 5ms

Design wise, the AOC i2481FXH follows the latest design trend – minimalist – and it follows it well. Virtually bezeless and rocking a sleek metal stand, the monitor looks very stylish. As you can see, the AOC i2481FXH is also thinner and most other budget monitors. The monitor is also surprisingly stable, and the funky looking stand has no issues at all. Adjustability is also acceptable, and the monitor’s viewing angle can be moved up and down. The monitor has 2x HDMI ports and a VGA port, but no Display Port.

This monitor doesn’t have any built-in speakers, so you would need dedicated computer speakers to have sound.

The AOC i2481FXH costs slightly more than most budget monitors, but with that added expensive, you get a beautiful design and a quality IPS monitor. If you’re doing a simple multi-monitor setup, this monitor would work perfectly without emptying your wallet. This will be one of the cheapest monitors to use with a multi-monitor mount in a dual or triple monitor setup.

Acer H257HU | 25” | 1440p

Screen Size: 25″ Panel Type: IPS Resolution: 2560×1440 Aspect Ratio: 16/9 Colors: sRGB 100% Brightness: 350 cd/m2 Contrast Ratio: 1,000:1 Refresh Rate: 60Hz Response Time: 4ms Ports: HDMI, DVI, Display PortPros
  • Modern Design
  • Displays accurate, rich colors
  • Above-average built in speakers
  • Good gaming performance

– Cons

  • Tilt-only monitor
  • No VESA mounts

The Acer H257HU is a reliable monitor with a sharp 1440p WQHD (Wide Quad High Definition) and a thin bezel, deserving a spot on this list. With very thin bezels, its a great candidate for a multi-monitor setup – though price and the lack of VESA mounts could be limiting factors. The WQHD display is also incredibly accurate color-wise and will meet the needs of photographers and graphic designers. For gaming, the monitor also does well, with low lag, low response times, and no ghosting. The H257HU is a great all-around display, excelling in many fields.

The 2560×1440 IPS display on this monitor delivers great performance and accurate colors with its 100% sRGB support. The monitor’s color and gray scale performance are accurate and balanced, so there are no complaints here. The H257HU is also a great candidate for gaming with a low input lag of only around 10ms and an above average gray-gray response time of 4ms. Problems that plague cheaper IPS monitors like IPS glow and ghosting do not affect the H257HU. Acer’s Flickerless technology and blue light filter also help to reduce strain on users’ eyes.

The monitor is well built, with a solid brushed aluminum stand and a smooth rear panel. Adjustability is limited, though, and the monitor can only move adjust vertically +15° to -5° – no pivots or side adjustments. The Acer H257HU supports HDMI, DVI, and Display Port, giving it a wide range of compatibility. It does not include any USB ports.

The Acer H257HU has built in two-watt speakers, which aren’t exceptionally powerful, but sound quality is greatly helped by DTS Sound enhancements and Acer TrueHarmony technology.

The Acer H257HU is not the cheapest monitor out there, but you get the entire package: a spectacular WQHD display, gaming performance, and a beautiful bezeless design.

Samsung CF591 | 27” | 1080p

Screen Size: 27″ Panel Type: IPS Resolution: 1920×1080 Aspect Ratio: 16/9 Colors: sRGB 100% Brightness: 250 cd/m2 Contrast Ratio: 3,000:1 Refresh Rate: 60Hz Response Time: 4ms Ports: HDMI, VGA, Display PortPros
  • Curved Monitor
  • Superior contrast and colors
  • Powerful built-in speakers
  • AMD FreeSync

– Cons

  • Tilt-only
  • Wobby
  • Only 1080p
  • No VESA mounts

The Samsung CF591 is a striking 27″ curved monitor with a polished, modern design and thin bezels. The 1080p a monitor of this caliber is a little disappointing, but it boasts great display quality. For a pure 1080p Full HD monitor, nothing beats this. For a curved bezeless monitor, the CF591 is very affordable.

The Samsung CF591’s 1080p monitor is probably not the best choice for a 27″ curved display size-wise, but it is indeed a very good 1920×1080 IPS display.  Colors are punchy, contrasts are good, and there is no graininess or any light glow or bleed. The monitor also includes an Eye-saver mode which cuts on on flickering and blue lights to reduce eye fatigue. If you want good 1440p curved monitors, check out the gaming monitor guide, but they are going to cost you two to three times as much as this one. Samsung showed off their technological prowess at CES 2016.

The monitor has an attractive look, with an aluminum bottom and thin top and side bezels. Unlike earlier curved monitors, the CF591’s curve is much more noticeable. Unfortunately, this monitor also is not VESA compatible and only has up and down tilt adjustments.

The monitor is well built, with a solid brushed aluminum stand and a smooth rear panel. Adjustability is limited, though, and the monitor can only move adjust vertically +15° to -5°. The Acer H257HU supports HDMI, DVI, and Display Port, giving it a wide range of compatibility. It does not include any USB ports.

The five-watt speakers on the Samsung CF591 are one of the best built-in speakers we’ve seen on a monitor. The Acer H257HU has built in two-watt speakers, which aren’t exceptionally powerful, but sound quality is greatly helped by DTS Sound enhancements and Acer TrueHarmony technology.

If you want an affordable curved thin-bezel monitor with an impressive 1080p display and a great built-in speakers, the Samsung CF591 is a strong contender.
