After the devastating victory of Holly Holm, it appears that the originally planned Rematch against Rousey is not going to happen this July of 2016 so the fans of both parties need to wait a bit longer. In a news article release by Yahoo sports, UFC president Dana White confirms that Rousey needs more time and the planned rematch will not be settled in the Octagon
According to White, Ronda was the chosen star for the remake of “Roadhouse” and probably the workout might get affected. The start of filming has been pushed back and Ronda needs more time to appear in the set.
During the interview, Dana White said that Rousey can do both (movie filming and workout). “But the question is, should she do both?” the UFC president added. The movie “Roadhouse” taping was scheduled to finish before UFC 200 or could be earlier than expected. As result of conflict in scheduled dates, White agreed to Holm’s title defense against Miesha Tate in UFC 197 to be scheduled in March 5, 2016 while waiting until Ronda was ready.
On the other hand, Holm’s manager is pushing for an interim Fight as Plan B so as not to wait longer. Tate vs. Holm is indeed an exciting fight but the Rousey-Holm rematch would be far less. Dana White said, “It was a risk Lenny Fresquez was willing to take”.
White also explained that Rousey truly needs more time especially a woman who has done more for UFC than anyone else. “It’s just unbelievable what she has done for 3 years. She didn’t say no to anything; said no to nothing”, he added. Rousey was indeed busy since last 2015 along with 3 consecutive fights plus 2 films “Entourage” and “Furious7”.
Aside from “Road House”, the UFC fight is also working for a planned project together with Mark Wahlberg entitled “Mile 22”.
Although, White didn’t revealed how much time Rousey needs but one thing is for sure. It’s up to the UFC fighter to decide whether he’s going to return or not to fight anymore.
