We honestly don’t go out much at night. Marko’s bed time is 8:00pm and for a good reason… I just can’t deal with a cranky kid. When I first saw that there will be movie playing on the promenade in Santa Monica, I didn’t even consider it because the showing time was 8pm.
But Dad is out town, and we needed distracting from missing him. Also we found out that they will be showing the original Willy Wonka.
Seriously?! Come on Santa Monica!
I’ve decided to screw the routine, pack a blanket, prep some strawberries and do it!
Being on the promenade in the evening is a pleasure of its own. The lit fern trees and palms, the street musicians and artists, it’s a wonderful vibe.
We found a spot to lay out our blanket, then we more twice to get a better view. We finally settled under a tree we could lean on. Great view in every direction.
It took a little while for the movie to start, but by 8:20 it was on. The sound was great, especially considering that the promenade was still as busy as usual.
Marko was totally into the movie, and quickly gobbled up his strawberries. As it grew darker I couldn’t help but to notice how beautiful of a scene it was. You had families with babies and small children, groups of teenagers, as well as couples that have grown old… All enjoy themselves.
As the movie ended everyone gave a big applause, and then me and Marko notice something weird, weird AND pleasant. On our blanket was a chocolate bar! I hadn’t notice anyone put it there, in fact I hadn’t noticed anyone come near us! (Yea, shame on me)
Marko’s eyes opened wide, “Mommy, do you think I’ve won a Golden Ticket?!” He carefully opened his chocolate in a manner j didn’t know he was capable of. And guess what, he got a golden ticket!
Honestly this is the best piece of marketing I have ever seen. My kid felt so happy when I read it to him. He talked about it all the way home, and didn’t stop until he went to sleep. He went to see if anyone had stolen it fist ting in the morning too!
It’s needless to say that we will be attending the next Cinema on the Street, and highly recommend it.
Thanks Downtown Santa Monica and KC Chocolatiers!
