Technocolour Dreams Paint Party
Yvonne Arbour and Dominic Sabourin from Brantford, Ontario.
Dragons Den Season 10: Episode 21
$150k for 20%
There isn’t a real problem here, but Dominic claims that Canadians haven’t been exposed to the particular Party scene that his company features.
Dominic and Yvonne created the company Technicolour Dreams to bring a new and unique style of party to Canada. They use 100% non-toxic paint (Dom even drank a cup of it for effect), and the parties are marketed towards university students.
Before any negotiations started, Dominic and Yvonne invited the Dragons to a sample Paint Party which looked like a lot of fun and was thoroughly enjoyed. However, once questioned about the valuation and their numbers, things started to get messy. They said each party costs about $10k, but they had no real set margin because the cover charge can fluctuate based on the venue. Furthermore, the risks involved were quite high because insurance to cover a 2000 person event, runs about $5000 – which would further cut into their profits. At the end of it all, the Dragons liked the concept but made no offers.
