In a series that has no explanation or description, Cody Cobb’s simply titled “West” gives us a bold look at the vast, empty, and monumental landscapes of the American west. The Seattle-based photographer has a striking eye, able to turn seemingly boring landscapes into captivating explorations. In some, a towering mountain or rock outcropping become the focal point, where in others, a smooth volcanic mound becomes an alien landscape. In much of his work, a sense of loneliness lingers, perhaps a result of the largely tree-less subject matter. However, Cobb’s eye is a strong one, and we’d like to explore a landscape through his vision.
