Kia latest brand to introduce £2,000 scrappage scheme

Blog 3

Kia is the latest brand to introduce a UK Scrappage Scheme for its older vehicles. Drivers of the company’s cars that are over seven years old will be offered £2,000 to trade their vehicle for a new Kia Picanto or Rio.

The initiative is already active at Kia dealerships across the UK and will run until December 2017. The £2,000 flat fee will be offered in addition to other Kia incentives offered.

Owners are not required to take any special measures to be eligible. Providing the owner details are the same as that of the new vehicle the £2,000 fee is guaranteed. All cars traded in will be scrapped.

Kia is expecting to sell at least 4,500 Picantos and Rios during the initiative. It’s estimated that if each of the older models is exchanged for the newer alternative, carbon dioxide emissions will be reduced by around 1.6 metric tonnes over the same period.

Kia’s President and Chief executive Paul Philpott said: “A number of Scrappage schemes – many applying only to bigger models with higher emission levels – have been launched recently, but the Kia seven year switch scrappage scheme is simple and easy to understand. It applies to all versions of the low-emission Picanto and Rio ranges and is guaranteed as long as the buyer of the new car is also the owner of the car being scrapped.”
