In addition to operating response teams themselves, they assist in training state, tribal, and community-based teams to handle emergencies in their respective areas.
They are two ways in which one can apply for the program. You can either apply through phone by calling 1-800-621-FEMA (3362) or online by visiting www.disasterassistance.gov portal.

Before you proceed to file for assistance, make sure the following details are in place:
- Social Security number
- Telephone number
- Mailing address
- Private insurance information
- Bank account information for direct deposit
- Paperwork related to damaged property (photos, receipts, etc.)
