The web has a new dimension that takes us a step closer to photo-realism. Thinking what that is? Maybe you know it already! (Played the infamous Pokémon Go game yet? That is the biggest example of it). Yes, We’re talking about Augmented Reality.
‘Augmented Reality’ (AR) is imaginary information generated from a computer projected on to real life environment, allowing its users to interact with it, as it’s a part of the original environment in the first place. You must not confuse AR with Virtual Reality, wherein, VR is something entirely artificial and created, AR on the other hand is much closer to the real world.
The most common use of AR is seen in the smallest as heads-up displays in the windshield of a car, displaying information like speed, revs, distance traveled and what not!
Augmented Reality’s adoption, research and development has been fairly rapid and constant. Seeing it as an easy opportunity to take advantage of, most of the big companies have adopted AR as a sole source to connect better with their customers.
Perhaps the most engaging and currently famous example of AR is undoubtedly the new mobile game which features catch-able little monsters, Pokémon Go. It’s is a free to play location based AR game, developed by Niantic Labs in collaboration with Nintendo and Google for android and iOS devices.
The game is considered as a revolution in gaming and within the tech industry, as it’s the first to achieve such massive consumer use worldwide.
So massive that the numbers will baffle you! :o
Seeing the levels of engagement and craze, it has paved a new direction for the future of tech industries and consumer marketing. The direction leading to a more engaging and responsive world.
