Back in February we wrote a blog about our plans for 2017: for our Gap year without a gap! Our plan was to travel as much as possible in one year without giving up our jobs as we're not in a financial position to do that (and we don't want to give up on our careers).
Now we are at the year's end and we reflect back on one incredible year:
4 New Countries Marked Off Been
1 University Year Passed
1 Job Promotion
Here's the breakdown of our year:
January : Leeds (3 day trip)
February : Milan (3 day trip: watch our Food guide to Milan here!)
March : Leeds (3 day trip)
April : Seoul, South Korea (5 day trip: read about the food here and our video here!)
May : Hong Kong (4 day trip: read about it here!)
: Singapore ( 4 day trip: read about it here!)
: Kuala Lumpur (3 day trip: read about it here!)
June : London (3 day trip: read about it here!)
: Milan (4 day trip)
July : Aberdeen (3 day trip)
: Barcelona (3 day trip)
August : Edinburgh Festival (6 day trip: read about it here!)
September : Some much needed down time!
October : Edinburgh (3 day trip)
November : Aberdeen (3 day trip)
: London (3 day trip)
: Leeds (3 day trip: read about our trip here!)
December : Brighton (2 day trip with work)
: Vancouver (7 day trip: read about it here!)
: Seattle (4 day trip: more on this to come!)
All of our travelling was done using public holidays and annual leave but was it worth it?
2017 was easily one of the best years of our lives. Not only did we get to travel the world, eating lots of new and exciting food and meeting amazing people, we also got to continue on with our careers and move forward with our professional lives.
Finding a balance between travel and work was less tricky than we thought but a tip if you're planning a gap year without a gap is to book split your year into 4, 3 month blocks, then decide what you are focusing on in each. If you need to focus on work for a while, book short weekend breaks and if things at work are going okay, book a longer trip. If your job is less predictable than that, book a longer trip far in advance and use it as something to work towards and keep you motivated.
Our top 5 absolute highlights from this year include:
1. New Food and Old Friends In Seoul, South Korea
2. Street Food In Hong Kong, China
3. Tapas in Barcelona, Spain
4. Sushi in Vancouver, Canada
5. Welcoming An Amazing New Writer To Our Team!

We are super excited about 2018 and have A LOT of travel planning to do over the next few months! Stay tuned for more on our trip to Vancouver and Seattle as well as our up coming trip to Bratislava for Rachel's 30th country on her 30th birthday!
