Smartphone Or Trackphone ?

Phones are no longer phones. They are 'Smart' phones. Smart enough to feed your data and activities to remote servers for the purpose of data crunching and then on to the 'Advertisers'. Why only advertisers ? To those governmental 'Prying Eyes' as well.

Today, let talk about the brain behind one of those popular and widely used 'Smart Phones' . Yes, the Google's very on 'Android'.

Let's come to the point. This post is an attempt to increase your awareness about app level access pertaining to various  applications installed in your phone. An app requires permission to perform certain set of activities. For eg. a camera app would require permission to use system's camera, microphone (voice while recording video), read/write access (to save and list the captured photos/videos), location ( for geo. tagging).

Now say, there is a document reader app or a simple game app. Isn't it fishy if it asks for microphone permission!
The 'Secret Ear' might be recording your conversation while it's in your pocket. The television shows that your watching. Even when the app is not running.
There are various other system resources that app might be using to serve the intended purpose of- 'Those Prying eyes'.

What you should do is to review the app permissions and turn of the ones which you believe is not required. If the app stops working or shows warning, there is nothing to worry about. Your privacy is more important and there are tonnes of similar apps.

Navigate to your phone's setting and then to app's. Look for the permissions ( this options can vary depending on the OS versions). Just fiddle around a bit because the time you spent here is worth it.

Turn of the unintended permissions. At least your are now a blink away from 'Those Prying Eyes'.

Stay tuned.
