Tottenham fans have been reacting to the news that a big name will miss Saturday’s North London Derby against Arsenal at Wembley, but – as reported by Football.London – that big name isn’t one of their own players.
Spurs go into Saturday lunchtime’s clash four points ahead of the Gunners in the table, and seeking revenge for the 2-0 defeat they suffered at the Emirates earlier in the season.
Mauricio Pochettino’s men will take heart from their battling display against Liverpool in their 2-2 draw at Anfield last weekend, but Arsenal will be feeling a lot better about themselves after their 5-1 hammering of Everton last weekend.
One Gunner looks set to miss out though, with Petr Cech forced off injured in that Everton clash.
The goalkeeper was replaced with a suspected calf injury, with Arsene Wenger admitting after the game that he was unsure of the severity.
Initially, it was hoped that Cech had only sustained an impact injury following the collision, but the signs suggest that it is a muscular problem that will see the veteran goalkeeper sidelined this weekend.
David Ospina is expected to deputise for the Gunners number one, with the Colombian to make his first start of the league season, having only previously featured in the cup competitions.
However, after Cech’s shaky recent form – which included a mistake at Swansea leading to a goal, Spurs fans took to social media to express their disappointment at the news that the 35-year-old is likely to miss out.
One user wrote: “We’re better off if he plays,” while another posted: “B**ger there’s an own goal or a couple of mistakes we won’t get now.”
