Amy Winehouse: A Family Portrait, the Jewish Museum: an intimate look into the singer’s life

A singer-songwriter, a fashion devotee, a Camden advocate, a woman with the tough public image and artistic soul – Amy Winehouse remains an icon for many music lovers worldwide. With the new exhibition in the Jewish Museum, you’ll be able to sift through the intimate moments of her life – and see her through the eyes of her family and friends.

Amy Winehouse: A Family Portrait returns to the Jewish Museum in Camden after four years of an international tour. Co-curated with Amy Winehouse’s brother Alex and sister-in-law Riva, the exhibition will allow the fans to get to know her beyond the status of a music legend she is.

Among the items on the display, we’ll be able to see Amy’s world through her personal belongings. You might learn a few new things besides her passion for music:  did you know she loved Sudoku, or Snoopy? A handful of featured photos will showcase her relationship with her family and strong connection to her Jewish heritage: snaps from their Friday night dinners, her brother’s barmitzvah, or portraits of her beloved grandmother.

The exhibition opens on the 16th of March, and you’ll be able to see it until the 24th of September 2017 – and it will be accompanied by a crowdfunded street art trail featuring such artists as Captain Kris, Mr Cenz, Philth and Amara Por Dios. It finishes with newly commissioned Love Is A Losing Game by Pegasus, whose Fallen Angel gained recognition after Amy’s death.

The Jewish Museum will also run a series of events accompanying the exhibition, such as curator talks, or a session with Amy’s friend and tattoo artist.

Amy Winehouse: A Family Portrait. 16 March – 24 September 2017. Open daily 10am – 5pm (Fridays 10am – 2pm). Tickets: Adult £8.50, Concession £6.50, Child (5-16) £3.50, Family ticket £18 (two adults and four children), free for Museum Friends and National Art Pass holders.
