E.U. futures trade flat as euro advances…

Most European indices futures traded flat today, giving investors no clear direction as to how the markets might behave today, ahead of a decisive Fed speech that is widely anticipated by investors. On Friday, the Federal Reserve is expected to make an official statement that will reveal the timing of next rate hike. Indicatively, Germany’s DAX futures traded 0.1 percent lower at 10587.0 while CAC 40 futures were little changed at 4421.2. U.K. FTSE 100 futures also traded flat at 6816.8 while the Euro Stoxx 50 remained at 2997.0 as of 6:35 GMT.

European Markets enjoyed a fairly bullish session yesterday with U.K.’s FTSE being the only index that recorded some losses. The euro also edged higher against most of its peers today and was last seen trading at 1.1269 USD and  0.8528 GBP as of 6:40 GMT.

 Australian retail giant Woolworths reports major losses…

Australian supermarket giant Woolworths on Thursday reported a large annual net loss of $940 million US dollars following a failed push into hardware and a slump in food sales. Australia’s largest retailer, recorded the sharp plunge for the year to June 26 and it comes as the first loss since 1993 and comes as a major slumber compared last year’s major earnings.

Asia stocks close mixed, Oil prices edge higher

Asian stocks closed mixed today but clung to recent well-worn trading ranges ahead of a speech by Federal Reserve Chair Janet Yellen at a global central bankers’ meeting. Indicatively, Japan’s Nikkei lost 0.3 percent to close at 16555.95 while Australia’s S&P/ASX 200 lost 0.4 percent to close at 5541.90. DJ New Zealand added 0.2 percent however, to close at 240.46 while China’s Hang Seng was last seen trading at 22876.00 after having strengthened 0.2 percent.

Crude prices edged higher today  as Crude Oil futures traded 0.3 percent higher at $46.91 while Brent added 0.2 percent at $49.13 as of 6:30 GMT.
