The Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, has suspended the over three months-old strike that commenced on Sunday, 4th November, 2018.
The Union suspended the strike after they had reached an agreement with the Federal Government on the revitalization of Public Universities. Report says that the Union President, Professor Biodun Ogunyemi, said that the union had embarked on the strike to “stem the continued slide into rot and decay in public universities since the 1980’s“.
He however stated that should the government fail to fulfil its part in the 2019 Memorandum of Action, MoA, that the Union will not hesitate to resume its strike actions. Most universities, however will not resume immediately as the General Election draws nigh.
