When you are looking for apartments to rent, it is important to make sure you are not comparing residences based solely on price. You must include things like neighborhood and security in the decision process.
This is especially true when looking for apartments to rent in Brooklyn Heights. The closer you are to Brooklyn Bridge Park, it is likely that you will pay a bit higher amount for rent each month. Other conditions that would increase the amount of rent include building amenities such as a doorman or concierge service, on-site parking, fitness center/gym facility, swimming pool, and common outdoor areas.
The first apartment we saw in an article in the real estate section on brownstoner.com. It was listed as a one bedroom with a bay window an mantel for $2700 a month. We decided to check it out on streeteasy.com to see if we could get a better idea of the layout, but the only pictures available were of the living area and kitchen. The apartment was at 272 Henry Street in a five story building. The hardwood floors look nice, and the kitchen cabinets look fairly new. With no pictures of the bedroom, it’s hard to tell how big it is. The apartment was listed, back in 2014, as having 850sqft. The apartment building does not have any of the more modern luxuries like a doorman, fitness center, etc, so the $2700 is solely the cost of rent.
The second building we considered is at 110 Livingston Street, just outside of Brooklyn Heights. It has a 767sqft one bedroom apartment available for $3500 a month. I would be willing to pay the extra $800 per month for this unit. The unit has bamboo floors, floor-to-ceiling windows, Bosch stainless steel appliances, a jacuzzi tub in the bathroom, in-unit washer/dryer set, 2 big closets in the bedroom, and 11 foot ceilings. The building has a 24 hour concierge, a fitness center, a roof top deck, and a parking garage. The building is pet-friendly, so if I decide to get a dog it won’t be a problem.
Granted, apartments like the one on Henry Street would be a little quieter, but for the price and all of the extras, I would choose the one bedroom on Livingston Street.
