Consulate on Wheels: 39 dual citizens take oath of allegiance

Thirty-nine new Dual Citizens took their oath of allegiance to the Republic of the Philippines during the “Consulate on Wheels” program held last June 30 at the Philippine American Cultural Center of Michigan (PACCM) in Southfield.

“Consulate on Wheels” is an outreach program conducted by a team of personnel from the Philippine Consulate General based in Chicago. This year’s team was headed by Philippine Consul General Gina Jamoralin.

During the outreach program, Atty. Marcus Evangelista, newly appointed Philippine honorary consul to Michigan, was sworn in by Consul General Jamoralin.

A press release by the Philippine consulate stated that the new honorary consul will be assisting the honorary consul general, Dr. Jose Evangelista, who is his father.

The new dual citizens took their oath of allegiance before Deputy Consul General Romulo Victor M. Israel, Jr.

Jeff Vedua, head of the PACCM group that assisted the consulate personnel, reported that during the one-day outreach program, 165 Philippine passports (new and renewal) were processed and approved, 39 documents were notarized, and 85 absentee voters were registered.

The Filipino Star News noted that the program was conducted smoothly with no long line of applicants. This was attributed to the pre-service scheduling by the consulate of those applying for passports and dual citizens.

It was likewise attributed to the volunteer services rendered by Vedua’s PACCM group. In an email message, Vedua thanked the following members of the group:

Al Thompson, Amy Risvold, Arcie Gemino, Audie Belen, Billie Belen, Bob Myles, Danielle Nazareno, Dina Keeling, Eden DeRamos, Ellen Porte, Dr. Ernie Mac, Fe SanAgustin, Flor Penner, Fred Porte, Hilda Kittinger, James Wilson, Jasmin DeRamos, Josie Palu-ay, Lulu Rodriguez, Merce Kho, Norma Thompson, Rebecca Tungol, Rose Caoagas, Tess Porcalla, and Tony Kho.

Vedua said it was an awesome service by the group members “from the set-up crew, parking fee collectors, check-in/registration ladies, screeners/document checkers, consular form lady, breakfast/lunch/snack crew, copier helpers, floaters and support crew.”

He said, “I am so grateful and honored to work with you. With all your help, the Philippine Consulate-Chicago” was able to do well its outreach mission.

PACCM President Becky Tungol praised Vedua, saying “Team PACCM is great because of your amazing leadership. I admire how you handled every situation that came along the way. You deserve to be the perpetual chair of the consular outreach committee.”

The consulate personnel also took note of the spirit of bayanihan displayed by the PACCM board members who “voluntarily gave their support to ensure the smooth and orderly conduct of the one-day service. They echoed the appreciation of applicants for the consular team’s effort to bring the consulate’s various services to Southfield, Michigan, which is some 300 miles away from Chicago.”
