How to Accessorize Your Wedding Dress

With your big day approaching, the last thing on your mind is probably how to accessorize your Wedding gown. After all, isn’t that what a stunning engagement ring and wedding band are for?

Unfortunately, in the rush to secure the perfect shoes or the perfect reception gown, many brides forget a vital part of their overall wedding look: the jewelry. Hey, if you wouldn’t go out with the girls without a sparkling Necklace or dangling earrings, why should your wedding day be any different?

Whether you’re a minimalist or a maximalist, here are our tips for adding a bit of sparkle for the big day!

Necklaces

Choosing a necklace to complement your gown can be nerve-wracking. There are a host of factors that come into play — the neckline, the bodice detailing, the fabric — all of which can be thrown off by an ill-chosen necklace.

First of all, if your gown already has intricate beading or detailing at the bodice, adding a necklace might look like overkill. Additionally, you must make sure that your dress color matches the metal of the necklace. For example, platinum and silver pieces look best on stark white gowns, as they bring out the cool tones in the garment. Conversely, yellow gold is best suited for the warm tones of ivory and champagne gowns. Blush-hued gowns, however, would work well with flirty rose gold.

The neckline is also another important factor. A strapless gown would work well with a choker, while a delicate pendant (like this Simon G. diamond-and-white-gold beauty) would work for a low-cut V-neck.

Earrings

Earrings are a big must — they’ll take center stage in every photo!

An easy trick to nailing a perfect set of earrings is to match them to your necklace. Have a stunning diamond choker? Pick a set of beautiful diamond studs (like these beautiful Simon G. 18K white gold sparklers) to match. A delicate necklace, however, would work well with a pair of hoops or dangling earrings. Edgier brides can also work a pair of stunning ear cuffs, which would also work on sideswept locks or on short cuts.

Bracelets

Refrain from wearing your favorite charm bracelet on your wedding day: it’ll detract from the more important jewelry (we’re talking about the ring!) Instead, opt for a delicate bangle (try this sparkling Simon G. bracelet for kicks) that won’t clash with the wedding band or engagement ring.
