As the year draws to an end I wanted to share a super easy and quick DIY with you, and a great way to update your home office or desk space in the new year for a fresh start.
All you need to create your own Nordic style desk is 4 Hairpin Legs, a tabletop, 16 screws and a screwdriver:
STEP ONE
Choose the legs. I was lucky to receive these beautiful and sleek Hairpin legs from The Hairpin Leg Co, a company based in the UK but shipping worldwide. I opted for 3-rod legs in white, but you can get these in a great selection of colours including raw steel, black, copper. Hairpin legs are a stylish solution to the need for sturdy furniture legs made with minimal materials, so a great choice for a desk. The ones used on my desk are 71 cm long / 28 inches, the recommended size for a desk or dining table.
STEP TWO
Choose the table top. There are so many different solutions to go for, everything from manmade boards to reclaimed wood such as old doors, pallets, floorboards cable reel tops or natural slabs. To keep it simple, I took a trip to IKEA where I found this Linnmon top. With a light wood top and white sides, it fitted perfect with the white hairpin legs tying it all together nicely.
STEP THREE
Attach. Once you have the legs and top ready, all that is left is to attach them – a very easy thing to do! Just place the legs where you want and start screwing. With the Ikea top it was not difficult at all, and I placed one in each corner with equal distance from the edge.
I am so happy with the finished result, the desk has a minimal and Scandinavian look and the legs give it that extra something to make it stand out from your ordinary desk. It feels special and unique since I made it myself, and I can’t wait to get back in my new office space after the holidays.
Tip; when getting your hairpin legs be sure to also get these smart protector feet. They have been specifically designed to protect delicate flooring and provide additional grip with highly polished surfaces.
