It often amuses me how the things that are most good for us are often the very things we have great difficulty doing (and sometimes avoid doing altogether). Meditation often falls into that category. We love the benefits of meditation, BUT...(fill in appropriate excuse here -- I don't have time, my mind is too busy, it's painful to sit for a long period of time, there are so many techniques to use and I'm overwhelmed, I get fidgety, etc.)

Sounds True Meditation Summit and Mediate.io
Let's face it, having a personal trainer type meditation coach wouldn't quite work -- can you imagine the taunting and yelling to motivate you to spend time in meditation? ICK. Not a pretty picture, for sure. Here are a few resources that can help you get into a meditation groove without all of the bullying, shaming, and frustration:

--Tami Simon is offering a Sounds True online Meditation Summit June 14-23. Three speakers are featured each day, and the lineup is quite impressive. You can learn more and sign up for free here. When you sign up, you'll get two free gifts (but I won't spoil the surprise and tell you what they are).

--If online summits aren't your thing, you can learn online via Meditate.io. The web site offers a free course entitled The Five Styles of Meditation.

That's your meditation RX for the day.

Bringing Calm to the Classroom
And since we're on the topic of meditation, I wanted to share something that I discovered recently that made my heart sing -- The Calm Classroom Initiative is now offering every teacher in the world free access to Calm, the mindfulness app that hundreds of thousands of people all over the world use everyday. The aim of the initiative is to empower teachers with mindfulness tools and resources they can use to help kids learn this new skill. How cool is that? If you're a teacher and would like to apply, go here.

Don't Overcomplicate It -- It's Just You Being with You
For those of you who struggle with your meditation practice, take it from someone who's had an on/off relationship with meditation for years -- don't make it a big production (you don't need special techniques or certain postures or lots of instruction contrary to popular belief), set aside just 5 minutes at first and let the feeling that develops take you to an extended practice over time, be kind and patient with yourself, and when all else fails, just remember this -- there's no goal in meditation practice. Focus on the simple truth -- it's about being with yourself. When you have a dear friend, you take time out of your schedule -- happily -- to spend time with him/her. Same goes for you -- take just 5 minutes a day and sit with yourself. No agenda, no technique. Just be with you and notice what that feels like.

Namaste!
