Winning, it's the best part of running. Winning gives you a sense of accomplishment and pride. It is very instrumental in keeping runners confidence level high and their motivation churning. Everyone can find a race to win, everyone has that ability. However, winning also makes you soft. The best runners find races they know they will lose, but fight for every spot. Losing is what builds character. Losing is what makes you great. If you have never learned how to lose, you can never truly know what it means to win. Losing means something different for everyone. Maybe it's not hitting a certain time that you want, or maybe it is simply getting second in a minor race. Whatever it is, losing hurts. However, you must break down before you can build back up even stronger. Losing, the break, is just as important as the build.
