Lets Talk Addictions

Good day and welcome to my blog. I was meant to do the Let’s Talk version of the last poem but I changed my mind. I changed it cause I was really moved to share the wisdom I had found recently and I also noticed most youths deal with addictions…….hence this post was given birth to. So what’s it about?….. To help you overcome your Addictions, to give you a new approach, to help you understand why you’re addicted and how you can throw your addictions away. Sounds lovely right? Let’s dig in…..

So how do these addictions start, they don’t start with our ignorance to the fact that they were harmful, they start with our ignorance to the depths of their harmfulness, their…. Hold. We convince ourselves saying “Just one shot of alcohol won’t harm” or “Just a single pill won’t hurt” or “Just a cigarette never killed anyone” or “Just a single clip of porn, it makes me feel good, I promise I would stop” or “Just one more cookie, I feel depressed, that’s all” and from “just one” they turned to a “thousand ones” eventually we get so overwhelmed, we can’t trace our path back and for others who can, all they can do is get filled with regret.

My recent inquiry into addictions made me realise how you’re only addicted because it makes you feel good. All we really want is to feel good and because these things are shortcuts to feeling good or happy, we keep on returning to them. So you need to know the problem isn’t you, it’s where your happiness or “feeling goodiness” (lol), lies. With that said take my advice and that is: Do not hate yourself, you’re only human.

To understand addictions you need to know they follow a Sequence and that’s:

Trigger – Routine (your addiction) – Reward (feeling good).

Let’s think about it for a second, relate whichever addiction you might have to this sequence. For those addicted to gambling, you see monetary things as things that will make you happy. So, when you see them you get triggered to get them to feel happy, then the routine, which is gambling, until you find your reward you keep repeating the sequence and even when you do you still keep on repeating the sequence. That’s why you’re hooked, cause you want to feel good.

Whatever it is you’re hooked on, figure out what you attach your happiness to and if it’s on the wrong things, you need to adjust it. A shortcut is to find your passions cause automatically when you do what you’re passionate about you feel happy. So when the urge to gamble comes (or whatever it might be for you), go and draw or sing or write a poem and when you’re done, it will make you feel good, the same exact feeling you would get from masturbation, social media, gambling whatever it is that is your addiction. Once you start to get accustomed to it, your addictions will disappear.

Quick tip: It doesn’t happen overnight rather by gradual work and another is that it isn’t easy but you probably already knew that. It takes work. Picture the life you want and keep on reminding yourself of it while doing what you love. It might be hard but I believe in you cause you’re special. And if you need a reminder look at your fingers, the print on them, guess what no one else in this world has it, just you. You’re special, you’re strong enough to control your life. You need to believe in yourself too, believe in your strength and you will start to live the life you want.

I hope this was helpful to you. If you were changed by it, make use of the comment box to let me know how you plan on using it and if you like what you see, hit the Follow button.

Have a lovely day.
