Nimbus Data, a Flash Memory hardware company from California, created ExaDrive DC100 SSD that is capable of storing 100TB of data.
What this means, the 3.5-inch DC100 drive offers eight times more capacity than the largest hard drive until this date.
The SSD drive was designed with speed and electricity consumption in mind. Capable of read and write speeds of 500MB/s, it uses about 85 percent less power per TB of storage (0.1-watts per terabyte). The DC100 was meant for enterprise use, to be the drives in server racks. Nimbus said that a standard rack equipped with this SSD drive can have more than 100 petabytes (100,000GB).
This reduced power consumption translates into power, cooling, and rack space savings.
But just like usual, massive drives like the DC100 aren't targeted directly at consumers.
According to the company, the DC100 utilizes 3D NAND flash memory, capable of storing 20,000 HD movies, or 20 million songs. It also comes in both SATA and SAS.
Nimbus also promises great endurance, with it offering a five-year warranty covering an unlimited DWPD (Drive Writes Per Day), in contrast to the regular two to five DWPD that competitors offer.
Previously, Nimbus claims to have created a 50TB SSD back in August 2017.
