2020: The Yinova Family Shares What They’re Grateful For This Year

Wherever your mind goes, your Qi follows. This sentiment is one that we love and use often in our practice.

It’s another way of saying that what you focus on, grows. And to us, it makes sense to focus on the good things. Here at Yinova, we are most Grateful for the community that all of us – patients, practitioners, and administrators – have created together.

This year has been stressful, to say the least, and we are inspired by our patients’ resilience and strength. We really are blessed to be able to support you all.

From Yinova Founder, Jill Blakeway:

“In a shaky world, I find it helps to surround myself with people who are working to make other people’s lives better. So this year I’m grateful for community and, in particular, our community at Yinova. It’s good to have a supportive team beside you, whether it’s your family, friends, or colleagues.”

From Front Desk Team Member, Sheryl:

“I am grateful for the ability of relationships to change. This past year, I’ve been able to observe changes in the relationship that I have with myself and others. It makes me feel free and grateful to be able to grow more positive communication and depth within myself and with others.

I’m grateful for this growth in communication and depth on a wider scale. We have the ability to share and talk with each other all around the world. We can, more easily, unite together when there is injustice. I am joyful when I feel the rhythm of my heart, in its search for truth, sound in tandem with the beat of others.”

From Yinova’s Director of Operations, Kimmel Yeager:

“I am so grateful for all the lessons 2020 has brought me. Some of them hard-earned, but I am going into 2021 with a clear purpose and direction to what is most important and meaningful in my life and the ways I can be in service to others…and that is a true blessing.”

From Yinova Practitioner, Daryl Thuroff:

“No matter the ups, downs, and turnarounds that 2020 and beyond may bring, I am most grateful for the charming gardeners of my soul… a.k.a. my family, friends, patients, colleagues, teachers, community, and of course, my dog Jake.

As Ram Dass said, ‘we are all just walking each other home.’

Well, I for one, am grateful for the company.”

From Brooklyn Heights Manager, Bobbea Bermudez:

“My roots. They’re deep and powerful and I’ve never given them enough credit for how grounded they’re able to keep me, if I just let them. This year, I am most grateful for them. Gracias, raíces.”

From Front Desk Team Member, Erin:

“I am 10 million shades of grateful for the people in my life, especially for my coworkers at the Yinova center, and more specifically for Anne Brunn. Anne is compassionate, hilarious, fierce, and such a joy to work with. Anne, if you are reading this, thank you for being you and all that you do!”

From Yinova Practitioner, Su-Jung Lee:

“Huge gratitude for the Yinova family and warm welcome to this new chapter of my life. It comes at such a wonderful time on the heels of a very challenging one. Today, I am so grateful for my partner Jeremiah and his constant reflection and love, for Levi, our foster shepherd, who has taught us about the power of love and attention in the healing process, as well as, giving us rushes of love chemistry, helping me stay calm through the roughest of part of this month.

And I am grateful for my family of friends who remind me I am not alone – if I am feeling particularly exhausted and give me so many reasons to celebrate life, from new babies, and personal passion projects growing from seeds into strong, beautiful inspirations of greater happiness. And I am forever grateful for my mom/dad/bro/sis, the lineage before us, and the next generations that will continue to integrate into wider webs and create new possibilities along the way. I thank Vedic meditation for offering me a practical and easy way to tap into the Universal stream of consciousness, giving me the perspective and mooring to appreciate even the things that may feel scary or trigger aversion, helping me to show up as the best person I can be at every moment, and be able to laugh when it doesn’t go as planned.

I breathe easier knowing that everyone and everything is playing a part in the greater evolution of life. May we continue to grow wiser and find inspiration in our daily lives to remind us of our greatest potential.”

From Yinova’s Director of Marketing, Emma Thake:

“I’m grateful that I still have plenty to be grateful for. This year has been incredibly difficult and I know many have really suffered because of that. I’m grateful to have my health; I’m grateful to be surrounded by supportive and empowering people at work; I’m grateful for my cute dog who gives the best cuddles… I’m also grateful for this task of sharing what I’m grateful for because, to be honest, it’s not been the easiest thing to focus on lately.”

From Yinova Practitioner, Donna Hernandez:

“Gratitude has been a key daily word for me this year.  Gratitude for health, love of family and friends, work, and being able to do what I love and also for lessons.  Life as a person of color in this society has never been easy – but lessons have taught me how to take every hit with stride and even if we as a people don’t come out on top – we hopefully come out in one piece, or better said peace.  This Thanksgiving will be very different for many and I feel the pain of so many loved ones who will no longer be sitting at the table giving thanks this year for reasons not only due to COVID but also because of some major Structural Racism and disproportionate health/wealth issues.  The entire ideology behind the holiday has always had some eerie energy to it.  This year we will all hopefully have learned a little more of our history with patience, compassion, and serenity.”

From Yinova’s Chief Clinic Director, Noah Rubinstein:

“I have more to be grateful for than I can imagine, but I do know that nature is where it all begins for me. The things I am most grateful for are tied to the earth – it’s rhythms and the relationships that connect us all to each other and the planet.”

From Yinova’s Physician Liaison, Cara Burian:

“Never before has a year forced me to appreciate the little things like this year has. I’m grateful to 2020 for showing me what really matters and I’m grateful for the people in my life that help me to slow down and appreciate those things.”

From Yinova’s Chief Operating Officer, Liz Henning:

“I’m grateful for the change in perspective that this year has brought in so many ways — connecting with people through screens, spending more quality time with fewer people, confronting our country’s history and systems, and having to learn new ways of moving through the world really helped me understand what I value.  I am grateful for being able to spend so much more time with my 1-year-old, and watch her spend so much more time with her cousins than our normal daily life would have allowed for.”
