Can Deodorants Really Cause Breast Cancer?

If you’re anything like me, the increasing rates of women afflicted with Breast Cancer have given you cause for concern. According to a recent study from the University of Washington, new cases of breast cancer have jumped worldwide, from about 640,000 in 1980 to more than 1.6 million in 2010.

What gives?

While they scramble to figure out the cause, I figured that I better start being mindful of all the extra toxins floating around in our atmosphere. While it’s true that I can’t walk around in a plastic bubble (even that wouldn’t keep me safe) at least there are some preliminary measures that I can take to reduce my exposure to xenoestrogens.

I came across this post from HerbMentor.com which shows how to make a natural deodorant.

Why rally against antiperspirants you ask? Well, because anything that prohibits the body’s natural functioning is a health risk. The way an antiperspirant works is by preventing you from sweating. And sweating is the body’s natural elimination method. Sweat stays in…so do the toxins. Get it?

HerbMentor cautions that “Commercial deodorants often contain a variety of chemicals that have strong implications with serious diseases. These chemicals are then rubbed onto the underarms, at least once daily, where sensitive mammary glands and important lymphatic glands are located.”

I am really excited to give it a try because I’ve tried natural deodorants in the past. First I tried the crystal kind and then the all-natural liquid roll-on kind. Neither of them left me confident in their ability to keep me fresh. whenever I used them, I had to carry back-up in my purse because I would notice a tart smell by noon.

Being the self professed smell-o-phobe that I am, that just wasn’t gonna cut it.

Anyway, the author Rosalee, has been experimenting for the last year trying to develop a deodorant recipe that actually works and says she’s finally cracked the code.

So if, like me, you’re concerned about deodorants and breast cancer, check out Rosalee’s post here, then stop back by the pain-free periods community to let us know how it works for you…
