Today we’ll be discussing why medieval-fantasy trilogy ‘The First Law’ by British author Joe Abercrombie should be the next big fantasy TV series, specifically a successor to HBO’s ‘Game Of Thrones.
As we all know, ‘A Song of Ice and Fire’ completely took the world by storm after the novels by George RR Martin were developed into a show by HBO called ‘Game Of Thrones’, a series which is in its seventh season and is one of the greatest TV shows of all time.
‘The First Law’ trilogy by Joe Abercrombie is split into 3 novels: The Blade Itself, Before They Are Hanged and Last Argument Of Kings. It takes place in its own world, one that is completely immersive and rich. Similar to ‘Game Of Thrones’, it’s brutal in scope and the story follows many different characters who all have their fair share of trials and tribulations. What sets these 3 novels aside from other fantasy novels, we believe, is the characterization , each individual character has their motives and are unique while each adds something different to the story.
Very much like ‘Game Of Thrones’ has the White Walkers, Abercrombie’s books have a similar threat to the north that go by that name of the Shanka (or Flatheads). But that’s all we’ll say about that!
No TV network holds rights to the books yet, but we believe that it’s only a matter of time before someone sees the huge opportunity to adapt this. One fantasy series that we could see made into a movie or TV show soon is the Kingkiller Chronicle by Patrick Rothfuss, that’s one you should really be excited for, read more about it here.

As we’ve said, no network should leave this series untouched, especially after the success of ‘Game Of Thrones’, its a must-read for all fantasy fans that should turn into a must view one day!
