Queenstown International Marathon 2016 – Flat Out Beautiful

Thousands of endurance runners are expected to turn out for the third Queenstown International Marathon this November. This relatively new event is taking off in the running world, with people from all over the world coming to take part in the new great race.

Run options include full 42km marathon, 21km half marathon, 10km run and 3km kid’s runs. Whether you are participating, supporting or watching, it promises to be an exciting day out in some of the world’s most spectacular scenery.

The marathon course is mainly flat ground, both on and off-road in the area between Arrowtown and Queenstown. Road running makes up around a third of the 42 kilometre route, while the rest is well packed dirt tracks. The runners begin at Millbrook Resort and finish at the Queenstown Recreational Ground, having passed through some of the best parts of Arrowtown, Lake Hayes, the old Shotover Bridge, running the Twin Rivers Trail and following a dirt road between Lake Wakatipu and the Remarkables Mountain Range.

Spectator locations are at Lake Hayes, the Lower Shotover River and Frankton, as well as the start points for the various courses. Early birds will be able to grab a seat in one of the many cafes in Arrowtown, Frankton or Queenstown and enjoy the show from there, or browse the local shops and markets until the runners come through.

After the races enjoy the welcoming facilities of Queenstown while you relax and unwind. Food, drinks and music will provide atmosphere and comfort at the finish line, and sports massage will be available for $10.

Bring out your running shoes, stretch your calves and head down to Queensland for the run of your life!
