Check Inn Hotel

Location

Check-Inn Hotel is ideally located on the main road in Green Point. So it’s easily accessible when you enter Cape Town. There is parking on-site, however, these are very limited. And they are on a first come first serve basis. So therefore you do not have an allocated parking spot. And if you arrive late when all the parking spots are occupied you will have to park on the street outside the hotel in the public parking. In addition, the hotel has a security guard on duty at night to watch over the property.

Check Inn Hotel and Rooms

The Check Inn Hotel is a no-frills hotel with very basic and minimal features.

There are five different types of rooms, starting from the studio room and progressing all the way to the deluxe room. And the price and facilities with each room vary. The rooms start at R650.00 to R760.00 per room being the most expensive.

We stayed at the Check-Inn Hotel on two separate occasions and chose two different rooms. The rooms we stayed in were the Premier Room and the Executive Room.

Check-in process

The first time we visited the Check-Inn hotel, the check-in process was unnecessarily long and we waited quite a bit. There is a standard form which you have to complete. Also as a result of the pandemic, there is a screening and health questionnaire. They also have a camera outside that scans your temperature for security purposes.

However, the second time we checked in, the process was smooth and completed very quickly. It could also be that each time we were attended to by a different employee.

The reception is open until fairly late but it’s best to check with the hotel if you are going to arrive later to check into your room.

We were happy to note that the earliest you can check-in is at 12:00 pm (which is relatively early in comparison with other places we have stayed in). And the latest you can check out is before 11:00 am (which is also relatively later than other places).

Facilities

The premier room had basic facilities including a double bed, en-suite (however the washbasin was in the room rather than with the shower and toilet), plug points, a television, and air conditioning. Whilst the executive room, in addition to the above facilities also had a desk and chair and a safe.

Other facilities which the hotel and the rooms had were the following:

WIFI – Yes (when you check-in, you are provided with the password)

Towels – Yes

Mini shampoo, lotion – Yes

Vending machines – Yes (has cooldrink and on the go foods, like pies)

Parking – Yes (on a first-come-first-serve basis)

Fridge – No

Microwave – No

Highs

Some of the highs were that the room is functional. It has a minimal design that is practical and it was clean. One thing we noticed when we checked out, was that the staff removes all the bedding and towels daily so you can rest assured that these are cleaned and sanitised. Depending on where your room is situated, you will enjoy great WIFI coverage. On the one night we stayed, the coverage was poor however on the other night when we stayed in a different room, the WIFI was very good.

Lows

One of the lows is the parking situation as there are limited parking spots and they are on a first come first serve basis. Generally, we tried to be back early so we could secure a parking spot. Secondly, also relating to the parking, even when you get a spot, it’s very small parking spots. And the spots are awkwardly situated making getting into and out of the parking spot, a real challenge. A three-point turn has nothing on this, think at least five because that is what you will have to do.

Booking forum and price

Premier Room – R675.00 per room

Executive Room – R710.00 per room

*When we booked we paid R200.00 less on the booking for each of the above rooms, as we had a discount code that the booking platform offered on their social media for a limited time.

Recommendation

Overall if you are looking for a basic hotel set up with no thrills and frills, then this would be the place to stay. It’s ideally situated and is just a few minutes away from the V&A Waterfront, Sea Point and the Cape Town CBD. And it’s neat, clean, and functional. Just remember the parking situation, so get there early or if you are not driving then it is all the better.
