Abandoned Hotel Front Facade

Abandoned Hotel in Kraljevica, Croatia

While exploring Croatia, we stumbled upon a fantastic abandoned building on the Adriatic coast waterfront of the quaint Croatian town of Kraljevica, Croatia. The old town is in the Kvarner region of the European country of Croatia, located between Rijeka and Crikvenica. The building was initially built as a hotel for affluent European tourists but was later converted into a hospital.

Hotel Liburnia

The large and luxurious hotel Liburnia is the first hotel built in the Kraljevica area in 1905 by the European Nobel Philip Olschbauer. By 1905 the beautiful Croatian hotel had thousands of guests. The hotel quickly earned a reputation for relaxation and recovery of body and mind. As you can see in the photograph, the grand hotel’s ornate architecture and beautiful facade were built in the Art Nouveau style.

Later, the grand architectural building was converted into a hospital to treat people with disabilities. Decades after the hospital was abandoned. The roof and floors were torn down, which accelerated the decay of the rest of the building. Today we can only imagine what the hotel Liburnija used to look like.
