Best Hotels in Bogotá – Introduction

Planning a visit to Colombia’s massive capital city of Bogotá?

You’ll want to make sure you have a nice place to stay. Bogotá has a bit of a reputation for having lots of traffic, lots of people, and being a bit dodgy.

For that reason, sometimes people advise skipping Bogotá all together. While I definitely don’t think you should choose Bogotá over say, Cartagena, I do think it’s absolutely worth visiting if you have the time.

This is the cultural heart of Colombia and is where you will find the best museums, like the fabulous Gold Museum or the Botero Museum. There’s also lots of restaurants and the historic city has a unique mix of colonial charm, commerce, and big government buildings, with a touch of grunge.

The surrounding mountain scenery also makes the city prettier than it usually gets credit for.

Check out their predesigned packages or fill out this form and they will work with you to design a truly unforgettable, custom made trip, starting at $1000 USD per person.

*Before planning your trip: Recent times have shown how important it is to have travel health insurance. World Nomads is a leader in traveler’s health insurance. Get a quote here.

There’s more to do and see and the city is prettier in its own Bogotá way than it often is recognized for.

In short, I think it’s absolutely worth including Bogotá in your list of destinations on a trip through Colombia (see my tips for what to do in Bogotá here).

Of course, Bogotá is also the business heart of Colombia, and if you are coming to Colombia on business, there’s a good chance it will be in Bogotá. Many flights coming from overseas, especially Europe, will need a stopover here too.

*Need airport pickup and/or drop off? Reserve reliable airport transfers in Bogotá here.

Even traveling in country to places like the Rainbow River of Caño Cristales, seeing Colombia’s corner of the Amazon in Leticia, heading the the Caribbean paradise of San Andrés, exploring the coffee region and Salento, or heading to the neat landscapes of the Tatacoa Desert and San Agustín will likely mean passing through Bogotá.

If you are passing through, you might want to check out my tips for how to spend 1 day in Bogotá, or check out the top tours in Bogotá offered by our partners at BnB Colombia Tours (use the discount code ExploreColombia10 to get a 10% discount on any of them). You can also check out tours in Bogotá from GetYourGuide.

I also can’t recommend enough checking out the nearby charming town of Villa de Leyva if you have the time.

As Colombia’s cultural and commercial heart, there’s lots to see in Bogotá, you just have to make sure you are staying in a nice area, which you can be assured of at any of the best Bogotá hotels on this list.

Determining the Best Bogotá Places to Stay

So, now that I’ve convinced you to definitely include Bogotá in your plans, due to the concerns mentioned above, you want to make sure you get a good place to stay in Bogotá!

Since the list below is made up of 4 and 5 star hotels in Bogotá, you really can’t go wrong with any of them.

However, you may want to consider which area is best for you.

If you are visiting for pleasure, I’d recommend staying in the area of Chapinero. It’s a big area that is split into several zones. Stay near Zona G for great restaurants and cafes (picks 1, 3, and 11 below), near Zona T for nightlife and shopping (see #7 below), or near Parque 93 for a bit more peace and quiet (picks 2 and 6 below, or 4 for something even more exclusive).

If you are coming for business or a layover, you might want to consider the hotels that are close to the US Embassy and airport (picks 5, 8, 9, and 10) which offer relatively easy access to the main things to see in Bogotá, the financial district, and the airport.

Really, though, you aren’t going wrong at any of these best hotels in Bogotá!

If you’d like to learn more about the different areas in Bogotá, you might also want to check out my complete guide to where to stay in Bogotá, which also has some recommendations not only for luxury Bogotá hotels but places for all budgets in each area.

However, if you want to simply see the finest Bogotá hotels, you can find them in the list below.

11 Best 5 Star Hotels in Bogotá, Colombia

Ok, without further introduction, let’s get to this list of the 11 best luxury hotels in Bogotá.

This is a top 11 because, well, everyone does top 10s, 11 has a special significance for Cartagena (this is a Cartagena centric site after all) since it declared its independence on November 11, 1811 (11/11/11), and well, I think you deserve just a bit more.

So, read on to determine which of these places is the best hotel in Bogotá for you!

1. Four Seasons Casa Medina – Easy Choice for the Best Bogotá Hotel

Any list of the best hotels in Bogotá has to begin with the two Four Seasons properties. The Four Seasons Casa Medina would be my choice as the nicest of these two 5 star hotels in Bogotá.

It’s in a terrific location right next to the Zona G, where you’ll find lots of great restaurants and cafés. It’s also easy to get around from here, located right along a major thoroughfare.

But the real reason this belongs as the top of the 5 star hotels in Bogotá is how absolutely lovely it is. It comes at a high price, but the rooms here strike that perfect balance between classy elegance and modern comfort.

If you want to really treat yourself, book one of the suites or premier rooms with a fireplace. You might find yourself never wanting to leave!

In all, if you have the budget for it, the Four Seasons Casa Media absolutely should be your first choice among the luxury hotels in Bogotá.

2. Four Seasons Bogotá – A Close Second

For a second choice for the best 5 star hotels in Bogotá, Colombia, we will “settle” for the Four Seasons Bogotá.

This Bogotá luxury hotel is also in a terrific spot in the Chapinero district, not far from the posh nightlife and restaurants at Parque 93. Rooms here ain’t shabby either, with a bit more of a sophisticated but luxurious modern look than those at Casa Medina.

The penthouse looks absolutely amazing!

In short, whether you choose the Casa Medina or the main Four Seasons, you’ll be confident knowing you are staying at one of the finest best hotels in Bogotá!

3. JW Marriott – Best Pool at a Bogotá 5 Star Hotel

If you’re looking for a modern Bogotá 5 star hotel, the JW Marriott certainly needs to be high on your list.

This is also probably the best hotel in Bogotá with a pool. It has a terrific indoor lap pool too, so you can use it without worrying about the Bogotá cold. The rooms are gorgeous, with classy and elegant furnishing, and reviews rave about how comfortably the beds are at this Bogotá luxury hotel.

It’s also got a great location, just around the corner from the Zona G where the Four Seasons Casa Medina is located. It makes a great choice for those on vacation looking for to stay at a luxury hotel in Bogotá. It would also be a terrific choice for business travelers.

4. W Bogotá – Unique Hotel in a Unique Area to Stay

If you’re looking for 5 star hotels in Bogotá, Colombia that are not parts of larger, international chains, the W Bogotá should top your list without a doubt (although number 6 on this list is a good choice too!).

It’s located in the upscale Usaquén neighborhood on the northern edge of Bogotá.

That’s a bit further away from some of the main attractions and restaurants, but this is one of the safest and quietest areas of Bogotá and has some great shopping and dining options nearby. I think it makes for a really good choice for families and those coming for stays of more than just a couple days.

Rooms here are terrific with a posh, modern decor that feels luxurious and unique but classy. It’s also known for having some of the best service of any of the best hotels in Bogotá. So for those that want to experience a bit of a unique luxury hotel experience in a unique area to stay, it makes for an excellent choice for a 5 star hotel in Bogotá.

5. Bogotá Marriot – 5 Star Bogotá Hotel Close to Everything

The Bogotá Marriott is another great choice for a 5 star Bogotá hotel, whether traveling for business or pleasure.

It has a good location, fairly close to the airport but also within easy access to many of Bogotá’s attractions and the financial district.

There is a great indoor lap pool, spa, and jacuzzi. The rooms are nicely furnished with desks, and they are fairly large. A few places higher on this list of luxury Bogotá hotels might be a bit more elegantly decorated, but you’ll be plenty comfortable here.

Plus, it’s a Marriott, so you know you can expect good service and an overall great experience, making this a great choice for one of the best hotels in Bogotá.

6. Salvio Parque 93 – Offer Apartment Style Rooms

The Salvio Parque 93 might be the very best located hotel on this list of best 5 star hotels in Bogotá, at least for those coming for pleasure.

It’s right by Parque 93, where you’ll find tons of great restaurants. The park is nice just to spend sometime on a sunny day in Bogotá too, and this is one of the safest areas in the city. Business travelers might like staying a bit closer to the financial district, but for families or those looking for a nice place to stay where they can walk around at night, it’s a great choice.

The rooms are lovely too, with a modern decor. In a nice touch, they have a number of apartment style rooms available, which are great for families or longer stays. That’s especially the case if you would like the benefits of staying in an AirBnB like a kitchenette but also the security and service of staying at a hotel with a front desk and room service.

In short, it makes a great choice for one of the best hotels in Bogotá and those apartment style rooms make it one of the most versatile.

7. Sofitel Bogotá Victoria Regia – Bogotá Luxury Hotel in Zona T

For another lovely luxury hotel in Bogotá, check out the Sofitel Bogotá Victoria Regia.

Located in Chapinero, it’s very close to the area known as the Zona T, where there is a nice mix of restaurants, bars, cafes, shopping, and home to some of the best nightlife in Bogotá.

About equidistant from the Parque 93 and Zona G, it offers easy access to those areas too. It’s also very safe and is located on a street where it stays quiet, so really it’s perfect for any type of traveler.

Rooms here are luxurious, guests rave about how comfortable the beds are in reviews, and the hotel has a reputation for great service plus a highly regarded restaurant.

8. Hilton Bogotá Corferías – Best Hilton in Bogotá

Like the Four Seasons at the top of this list, there are two Hiltons in Bogotá (plus a bunch of others that fall under the Hilton umbrella of brands).

Also, like the Four Seasons, I like Hilton Bogotá Corferías just a little bit more than the main Hilton property.

I think this property is just so nice. It’s also in a bit of a unique location, near the US Embassy but not far from the historic center, the financial district, or the airport. While the other Hilton is closer to more touristy things, there are also several hotels I like better near that one.

So, this one occupies a bit of a unique spot on this list. The relatively new property is lovely, and the rooms are very nicely furnished, as you would expect given the name of this 5 star Bogotá hotel. Some of the views from the rooms are also terrific, among the best of any Bogotá hotel.

Bonus Pick: Main Bogotá Hilton – Not Too Shabby Either

The original Bogotá Hilton also makes a good choice for a Bogotá luxury hotel. It is located in Chapinero, close to La Zona G.

While I’d recommend the JW Marriott and Four Seasons Medina over it, it still makes for a fine choice. The rooms are not quite as nice and new like the Corferías property, but they are still plenty nice. There is a great indoor pool here as well. So, it still makes a goods choice.

9. Wyndham – Best Luxury Hotel in Bogotá Near US Embassy

The Wyndham makes an especially good choice if you are looking for a 5 star hotel in Bogotá and have business at the US Embassy (it’s literally across the street!) and/or want to be relatively close to the airport but not too far from the stuff to see downtown.

The rooms are also very nice, spacious, and well furnished. There is a great little food court downstairs as well (Susana and I ate here several times when we were getting her visa at the embassy).

So, this really would make a great choice whether you need to visit the embassy or not.

10. Grand Hyatt – Awesome Modern Luxury Hotel in Bogotá

The Grand Hyatt is another terrific choice for a Bogotá luxury hotel near the airport and embassy.

It gives the JW Marriot a run for its money for the best hotel pool in all of Bogotá. The rooms are modernly and comfortably furnished, and many of them have terrific views of the mountains surrounding Bogotá. There is also a gym on site.

While a bit further from some of the things to see in Bogotá than other places on this list, I think it still makes a good choice for those traveling for pleasure, including couples or families. It’s location also means it’d be great for business travelers.

11. Casa Legado – Charming and Artsy

The Casa Legado is without a doubt the most unique hotel on this list of best Bogotá luxury hotels. While there are a few places on this list that aren’t big international chains, they have a look and experience meant to be like them.

However, this place offers something a bit different. It has a very artistic design, with colorful rooms and neat touches in the decoration. There’s a lovely little garden, and the property feels more like a bed and breakfast than a hotel.

So if you are looking for a unique stay, definitely consider this place. It would make an especially good choice for couples on a romantic getaway and families. The location not far from the Zona G also gives it a good central location with easy access to lots of the main Bogotá sites.

In sum, it’s the perfect way to round out this list of 5 star hotels in Bogotá, Colombia with something a bit different and unique!
