Rana Kumbha Palace has many stories to tell, some reach you through our blog and some reach you through the feel of these walls. You can see and visualize the grandeur of that era and also sense the pain of betrayal and losses.

The entrance to the palace is on a steeply inclined pathway that was originally used by the horses. This 15-century palace was built by the great Rajput king Rana Kumbh where Rana lived and spent his royal life but currently lies in a dilapidated condition. 

This is the history of the palace across different generations of Rajput Kings and showed us the ruins of buildings which were once the residence of kings, queens, ministers, servants, horses, etc. The tunnel leading to the Bathing place, The Veranda, The Stable with all the paraphernalia. Most of the buildings have been destroyed by Mughal who invaded the Chittorgarh fort.

History of Rana Kumbha Palace :

The heritage Palace of Rana Kumbha is set just near the Vijay Stambh, inside the historical Chittorgarh Fort. This Kumbha palace was mainly built by Bappa Rawal who was famous for his art in Rajasthan’s Mewar Dynasty and then renovated by Rana Kumbha.

You have also heard about the lionhearted nursemaid Panna Dhai who sacrificed her own son and saved the life of the fourth son of Rana Sanga, The Udai Singh (Maharana Udai Singh, Founder of Udaipur city). 

This place is famous as the home of a devout follower of Lord Krishna – Meera Bai who was the foremost exponents of the Prema Bhakti (Divine Love) and an inspired poetess.

The palace has underground cellars where Rani Padmini and other 700 women in the royal palace performed Jauhar (self-immolation)  during the attack by the Sultan of Delhi, Alauddin Khalji in 1303 AD. This is also said that their souls are still screaming in this palace asking for help to save their empire.

Ghostly Incidents of Rana Kumbha Palace :

This palace is considered as the scariest place after the Maharani Padmavati performed Jouhar with 700 other women in order to save their empire. As this fort is a famous tourist place & many people don’t realize it may be haunted so visitors stay at night and they have seen paranormal activities happening inside the fort.

Mostly the loud whimper  & weeping of women are heard as they are seeking help to save their fort. Also, a lady in royal attire roams in the whole fort whose face and hands are scorched, people assume her the Queen of the Fort “ Rani Padmini ”.

Even though most of it is in ruins, the beauty of the place is immense. Hidden tunnels, water conservation systems, stories, and the history of the place is just absolutely breathtaking.

Take your time at this place, there’s plenty of beautiful things to see and experience. The light and sound show that happens in the evening is also wonderful.
